London-based independent insurance broker Howden Broking Group reports it been granted a license to operate in the Belgian market, further strengthening the group’s presence in Europe.
Herman Kerremans will lead this latest opening as CEO of Howden Belgium. Kerremans, previously with Aon Belgium for 15 years until 2018 and most recently chief development officer at JLT in Belgium, joined Howden in January of this year. He brings 30 years’ experience in corporate insurance and specialty business.
Kerremans said he has ambitious plans for the new Belgian startup. “The COVID-19 crisis has ushered in a rise in rates and a hardening market that will impact insurance programmes for many companies,” he said, maintaining that Howden can offer clients in the region access to “wider group resources and a fresh alternative in a consolidating broker market.”
