AAA Michigan announced that it will hold a “Grand Opening Ceremony today at its new Downtown Detroit branch office, located in the newly refurbished Dime Building at 719 Griswold, Suite 170, “Celebrating 86 years of service to Wayne County.”
“AAA Michigan first opened a branch in Detroit in 1916 — the year of its founding — at the Hotel Pontchartrain,” said the bulletin. It has maintained branch facilities in Detroit ever since. The move to the Griswold location from 1501 Washington Blvd. “provides customer-service space, the latest technology and a new retail look.”
The building itself is historic. The 23-story Dime Building was designed by architect Daniel Burnham, the father of the modern skyscraper, and was built in 1913. AAA’s new home has been completely refurbished in a $40 million makeover completed in January, “that returned the building to its former glory and added the latest in office technology for its tenants, including fiber optic wiring, cable TV and satellite capability, voice-over-Internet and T1 connectivity.”
