“Almost all” of the policyholders who are rebuilding are adding safe rooms? If things were being done per FEMA 320, ALL new homes would have “safe rooms.” This would be required by code. And all those safe rooms would be ADA-compliant, more likely built on grade. The homes’ perimeters should survive an EF3 tornado, which means reinforced concrete such as Insulating Concrete Forms or Monolithic Dome construction. These latter are also very energy-efficient.
I saw a special on Discovery about how the whole town is being rebuilt “green” – It was interesting but didnt mention individual homeowners. I would think a safe room would eat up a lot of your replacement cost coverage though.
It is sad that people’s houses are destroyed. I personally took place in an act to help re-supply schools in the area with my brother as his eagle scout project. I really hope whoever reads this donates a little time or money to help all antural disasters. It is no-one’s fault, and everyone needs help
