I’m sorry for the family’s loss, but this story fails to explain why the deceased was a passenger on an aircraft intended for skydiving adventures. Was he the friend of someone else who was intending to jump?

Maybe they offer to take you up if you are considering jumping so you can become familiar with the experience?

    Why did the chute deploy?

This is just wrong. It shouldn’t have happened.

What a horrible way to spend the last moments of your life. This was a tragedy pure and simple. I hope that all concerned can move on and not be haunted by this.

Lots of missing info in the story. Did the AAD malfunction and cause the deployment? Did he pull the rip cord by accident? How high above 1000 feet were they when the door was opened? Prudent man says wearing the parachute was a good idea. Many skydiving centers do not carry liability insurance. It might be tough to prove the pilot was negligent since he did not have anything to do with packing the parachute. Sometimes bad things happen that are the fault of no one other than the injured party.

Shocking, especially if you put yourself in Mr. Kidrowski’s place — or his wife’s (insofar as it sounds like she was on the plane). But extreme sports entail risk. Rock climbers and even those in the audience at auto races come to mind. Sometimes we pay dearly for our thrills.
