My wife had been a bartender for decades until April rolled around and she had to get into a different industry as she has a heart condition and didn’t feel safe working at a bar. She’s been at this place since they opened and has been friends with the owner since before then.
Now that it’s getting colder and outside seating is gone, it’s only going to increase the risk even more than before. Neither of us want to see him lose his business, but we also don’t want her friends who work there to get C19 (and they’ve already had 2 outbreaks with 1 severe case requiring hospitalization).
I feel bad for the owner, I really do, and it’s going to get more difficult come real winter if they don’t close and get bailed out.
I feel even worse for her buddy who got sick and needed to pay for 2 weeks in the hospital on a bartender’s salary (mind you tips have gone WAY down and they get paid less than minimum wage b/c of tips) and he doesn’t get any paid time off or paid sick time.
If only the government helped small businesses stay in business without risking spreading the deadly pandemic making a fool of our country on the international scale.
You know, like some sort of small business stimulus. Except one actually for small businesses instead of just Trump’s rich friends like the one we got.
I don’t have enough fingers and toes to count the number of times I have been in a restaurant bathroom and seeing people just walk out after without washing their hands. This is only post Covid… I didn’t pay attention to that until the pandemic hit, but it just stands out now. It is human idiocy keeping this virus going.
I can’t go inside to dine again, beginning yesterday. So I will be going back to ordering takeout and supporting my favorite restaurants that way. My own personal stimulus package, thanks to being in insurance which so far is weathering this situation. At least I won’t have to worry about other patrons and their poor hygiene.
Curbside pickup (or takeout, or delivery direct from the business and not through Uber Eats or whatever) is a GREAT way to support your local restaurants if you don’t feel safe dining indoors.
You may be even able to find some great deals from businesses that normally only sold bulk products to restaurants and are now branching out to sell to the public to try and stay afloat.
I feel really bad for these owners, but again, not as bad as I feel from people who are getting sick because these places are still open and folks aren’t taking proper precautions.
I totally agree! I know, there’s a HUGE political overcast to all this – don’t get me started or you’ll have Santa putting coal in my sock this year – but we are ALL being played for suckers and they are underestimating the populous all over the world – there WILL BE a major upheaval and backlash that they have NO idea is starting to boil, and if they keep taking us for granted, it won’t be pretty – you can only push a civilized society and its people so far and then WATCH OUT!🤬🤬
