I have requested WC coverage from everyone in the market for a risk with 1,000,000 in payroll with a .862 ex mod and can not find a carrier other than the PA SWIF to take it. Why can’t Lighthouse or WorldWide write it? Doesn’t meet their UW needs! What do they REALLY want?
I used to work with temp staffing a lot in the past and my guess is that you are writing possibly a clerical risk. No underwriter wants to take it as the rates really don’t reflect the exposure. However this is the rate put forth by NCCI and you have to abide by it so they just have UW criteria that says they wont write clerical only and then when they have good experience and the mod drops below 1 then they get even less. It is commendable that they have done well but the fact is that if they just have 1 even moderately sizable claim it will eat up 15 years worth of profit so the carriers are not willing to take on the risk as the odds are not in their favor in spite of the good mod rating. One trip over an extension cord or their own two feet and they are costing the carrier big bucks. It only takes one. They would like to write a carpenter with a huge rate and a mod like your account has. If they have a claim at least they have premium dollars on the books to make it profitable even with a claim.
Let’s be clear that this WC program is NOT THROUGH The Lighthouse Companies and Lighthouse Underwriters out of Annandale, Virginia. Lighthouse in VA DOES NOT WRITE WC.
Agents / brokers who write temp staffing agencies and PEO’s that are experiencing WC claims problems should familiarize themselves with CompResponse.com. This is company that will help insureds who want to fix their claims history & ultimately drive their loss ratios down to acceptable levels. Check their website and if it appeals to you call them.
I saw Jim’s posting and definitley think if you are a PEO or involved with a PEO and want your claims experience to show positive results then COMPRESPONSE.com is one of the few entities in the business that understands claims. Our firm has worked with them, and they are EXCELLENT so if you handle PEO’s check out their website and talk with Jim. http://www.compresponse.com
I am a PEO broker and have a PEO that will be more than happy to write work comp for the staffing companies that have been previously discussed on this site. I realize that it is several months after the fact but there is always next year.

Lighthouse for PEO’s in multiple States should be the premier underwriting facility for PEO’s going forward.
Great solution from a great group of people.

We have programs for Employment agencies
Actually it is mostly light industrial, packing, and light construction. There is no clerical. Premium is upwards to 225,000 with the ex mod.
Russ is this the proper format to place my email or telephone number into so we could talk?…this account is anxious to be away from PA SWIF.
And The Lighthouse Companies in Annandale, VA will write ALL THE LINES BUT THE WC!!
