GPOA\’s premium was so low for the presumed exposure it was sort of an Marsh bid-rigging scheme in reverse. I guess it\’s a sign of the times but it seems there is a scam a day in the insurance journal. Great business were in, huh?

The company owners / boat owners and operators should be held personally and fully responsible as anyone in thier right mind knows you cannot insure five tour boat for anywhere near that premium. Probably not even one boat. They appear to be guilt of recklessly operating!

DUH…….., when the premium was too good to be true, the owner knew he was flying below the radar .

Maybe Shoreline should have had their lawyer read the policy before they paid for it. \”You get what you pay for.\” How sad but true.

Someone does need to check out these shady brokers. Who would sell a boat policy that does not cover when the boat is in the water?

Come on folks..first question..how did the owner get to Wegman. Was Wegman checked out by either the owner or their representitives? Next..might we not presume that if Wegman was a legitimate agent/broker that the firm carried E&O. If so, or even if not, sounds like a case for counsel to at least attempt to bring an action.

There is a certain amount of due diligence necessary in the purchase of insurance, which appears to have been lacking in this case. On the other hand, it does remind me of agent/broker personnel who send out policies and either state or suggest that the insured read the policy. In other words, there is the presumption that the insured can the capacity to understand any of the terms and conditions of the contract – right!

    Be well all.

I often wonder how much insurance is sold in NYS by non-licensed out-of-state brokers or carriers. I think there\’s more fraud of this nature than we realize and too bad it takes this kind of tragedy to find out. Maybe the insurance dept. needs to be more involved in enforcement.

This is about typical for someone from Houston. That place is turing into Corrupt Business City, USA. It\’s amazing and I\’m glad I moved to San Antonio when I had the chance.

This potential exists when insurance is dumbed down, as it has been for many years. For all we know, the tour boat operator was told of the gap in liability but was too cheap to choose the right thing to protect his tourist clients. We\’ve all had experience. Note to self – check drainplug.

I am a diligent Broker that refuses to write a policy when a potential insured wants to dance around the coverage they need (my dance card is FULL).

I told the most recent person that wanted 1/2 a policy that I need to be able to sleep at night and if I sold him what he wanted there would be sleepless nights abound.

He ultimately came back to my office we wrote the policy. I was shocked because he was so adament but common sense prevailed! Hurrah for the righteous Broker!

Thanks for the note on half coverage. Congratulations. So safe to assume you would not have brokered the WTC coverage package? My Co. writes Guarenteed Reconstruction cost coverages and waives Co-Insurance. STILL haven\’t figured that one out….
Self– Drain plug secure. Got it right here in my pocket.

Hurrah for integrity! I am glad to you you are out there, and to know that there are others. It\’s not easy to stick to your guns, when staying below the radar will get you by most times. That\’s why I always go with honesty as the best policy: easier to remember the truth and you feel better ultimately. Sadly, when it comes to money, people act funny…..

What is it with Houston. We have had several clients that purchased bogus policies from operators (can\’t call them insurance brokers) from Houston. I guess PT Barnum had it right, there is a sucker born every minute.

Could some one go to ***** house and arrest her/him before she/he hurts someone. The rantings of this person have convinced me that they are way off kilter and should be in a secured location.

Unfortunatly these people can go on for years selling policies from shell companies. Craig Reynolds & Brucee Woods of Marine Specialty Management of AZ & International Wet Marine Underwriter is still doing it after 10 years! They get kicked out of States but the Dept of Insurance but keep on taking $ from the unsuspecting. International Water Safety Foundation is another. Someone needs the Feds to shut these people down.
