I do not belong to the PIA so I cannot comment on their level of involvement, but I am very involed with the Independent Insurance Agents Association both on a national and local level. The article makes a lot of great points. I know it takes a lot of money to lobby Congress. Frankly I know the Association has been very active in beating back the Federal Charter, but we as agents are being outspent by the Life Companies Association, Banks and a select few P & C companies ten to one. It is amazing to me how many agents can sit back and belly ache yet not contribute anything on a financial basis, or be willing to get involved with their legislature to beat back this bill. It is not too late to get involved with your local Asocation and contribute. I know for a fact we as P & C Agents are going to regret it very much if the regulatory agency becomes the Federal Government. Try and list one time the Federal Government has done a better job than the State Government in regulations. Did the Banks do a good job in the Mortgage Business? What kind of job did the Federal Government do with Katrina? Come on agents do you really want the Federal Government regulating our industry? Let’s get busy before it is too late.

Sweating mister insurance agent. Did you think that they would stop with the doctors and hospitals? You are nothing to JP Morgan. Just part of the herd headed for the slaughter. It is your turn, sucker!

Prevent the disaster? Hell, they orchestrated it!! You think this is by accident? You must believe in Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny too. We have all be had by the international banking industry. You know the ones that used to occupy the World Trade Center. Gives one pause, doesn’t it now. Exactly who is our enemy? His he foreign or domestic?

Thanks for your insight…do you still have your license? You are right on one point…being reactive vs. proactive will lead to what is happening in the healthcare field.

I agree with Mr.Auerbach that federal regulation didn’t to much to prevent the subprime fiasco, while the states have been very effective in regulation the insurance business. So why delegate insurance regulation to the feds? PIA has been resisting this fed takeover, but what are the mutual and regional companies contributing to fight this clear threat to their very existence? It seems the fight is always carried by the agents associations not the companies.

    Absolulte power corrupts… absolutely.

Wish I had thought of that… Unfortunately, it’s true when it comes to the big financial players/institutions (not the small to medium sized broker/agencies). First the industry then the regulators — both too greedy, both corrupt.

Now exactly what is happening in the healthcare field. CEO of United Health Group get 124.8 million in 2005 plus 1.6 billion in stock options while doctors and hospitals go broke. Yeah you said that makes me a quack, I say that makes you a crook and a fool!!

Well, this is called capitalism…if you want socialism, move to Europe. If you like 60% income tax brackets, high fuel and food prices, France is a good candidate.
