Given the “round out account” works why don’t more carriers offer a Auto and Homeowners package (only one I know is Kemper/Unitrin). Also why is it that when a carrier places me in a rating tier when I first get the policy but then just leaves me there. As time goes on they change that tier but leave me there.

Example I am a preffered customer so they place me in the preffered rating tier 1st year. 3 years latter that tier they use for average to below average but I’m still in that tier??? This is why customers MUST shop about every three years……It’s there game I just play it.

If you have a question about why you are still in a certain “tier”, call your insurer first and bring it to their attention. I try to keep track of all my insureds and move them to a better tier if they qualify, but I may miss some opportunities. Call your agent first.

A possible reason is that it costs money to run the various reports needed to establish which tier someone us eligible for. It may be that your carrier isn’t spending the money. Of course the down side of this is that the reports may come back and indicate a lower tier than what you are currently in.

It’s an unfortunate fact that auto insurance has been largely commoditized in recent years. We have taken a much more aggressive approach to help educate our clients on the nuisances of the auto insurance contract. We feel “the game” many people are playing is more akin to roulette than anything else. Most people who leave us or attempt or leave us, haven’t a clue that the lower premium being offered to them, say from an online source for example, is usually for likewise lower coverage. If price is the sole determining factor when a client decides to leave us, then either we had failed to properly communicate the importance of the plan offered or that a particular individual simply is a risk taker and sees no value in proper coverage.
