Individual states need to stand up and shout NO on this. The states have a better view of their own economies and cultures than the feds do. Most states insurance regulations are based in their state constitutions and laws, are we soon to find out that all lawas written in states can be arbitrarily obliterated by the executive branch. States had better wake up and send a message to their federal representatives that they work for the individual voters and not the white house.

Unfortunately it appears the majority is either to scared or to caught up in worrying about keeping thier precious belongings vs. caring about freedom, the constitution or the violations of it. We are living in an era of Socialists on the verge of Marxist, yes those are tough words but just look at the level of federal controls that have already happened and the caliousness at which individual rignts are treated. The Republicians with thier abandonment of conservative principles got us here and now ultra liberal marxist democrats are taking it home.
The States don’t care because they are to busy feeding on the federal food trough.
Its time for a third party and its time to take our government and constitution back, hopefully there are enough of us that care enough and are couragous enough.

Anyway isn’t this just a play on words? Of course the very bright folks in government that handle flood, terrorism, crop/hail could surely handle the total insurance industry better? NOT?
No Federal regulation vs Federal Insurance office? Aren’t they the same? Bamma and his words, again!Glad I am retiring soon.Of course I could get a job at the Federal Insurance office since it takes 3 in government to the job one handles in the private sector.

I have been in the insurance business for over 30 years and I have never been impressed with the states antiquated oversight of the industry. The fact is, I would rather have one federal regulator in Washington than 50 state government regulators, each with his own agenda.
I’m a Republican but I am firmly with Obama on this one.

All states you mention are very good states, I have a lot of respect for Texas, then Montana ( lived there for years)and Alaska, lived there one year…

The Obama position is supported by state regulators, independent agent groups and most insurers, except life and some large p/c insurers that want federal regulation. Obama’s position is in FAVOR of continued state regulation. The Bush Administration’s Treasury, by the way, supported federal regulation of insurance.

Let’s not forget that this Federal power grab is part of a much larger document that proposes extension of the Federal octopus into far more industries than just insurance. We need to look beyond our own back yards to see who else’s is being plowed into and over.

What is needed is a regulatory office to oversee the President. This is not constitutional of course, but in spite of his prodigious reputation as a fly killer, the President has made a mockery of constitutional principles (and the Presidency itself) since assuming office. Hence, in keeping with the highly sensitive tone already in play by this administration, a Presidential oversight office has become a necessity. Fortunately to this credit, the President has eliminated the need for a white house budget on flyswatters, saving the tax payers nearly $5, thus reducing a multi trillion dollar deficit Obama has created through his magical ability to produce money from thin air, with no material provocation– an attribute surpassing even his prowess at killing flies. The consuming question as to why flies find the President so compelling, in lieu of other competing attractions (cow pastures etc.,) is one still being hotly debated in congress, the MSM, houses of ill repute and other such weighty establishments, even as we speak. To express your opinions and further recommendation to the President on this issue please go to http://www.whitehouse.gov.

I think that it is wrong that your credit rating has anything to do with how your car insurance is priced. Car insurance is mandatory. You must have it to drive. Sometimes people are ill and cannot pay all of their medical bills due to an unforseen illness and insurance will not cover the whole amount. They live on fixed income and can barely buy gas or medicine. They may not have the best credit but they must have car insurance.I think car insurance should be rated by your driving record and a fixed rate set for everyone.

    Thank you,

    Brenda Wright

While I agree that credit should not be a factor, set rates for everyone is ridiculous. Why should I pay the same amount for insurance as John Doe when he has a few DUI’s and a couple of accidents?? It can’t work that way and never will. Your credit is a small factor in your insurance rates. For the most part, how you drive and where you live is the biggest factor in what you pay. A Credit Based Insurance Score is not the same as your Credit Score used for loan purposes. Go to http://www.insurancescore.com. It explains that topic.

I am amazed at the desperation of the insurance industry for putting an advertisement on Yahoo that is so awful! The picture is insulting and the link to your biased insurance industry article rather than the primary source or an third party review would be more legitimate. As a former school teacher of modern & English literature, the folks in the ad agency would not have passed my class! I ask my students to “spot the lie” in everyday marketing and print ads in lessons. Your effort is simply, transparently, blatantly dishonest. It sounds like the industry wants to keep big profits coming in. When all I want is to find homeowners insurance that won’t threaten to drop me if I attempt to claim 2 incidents of storm-related damage in one year or just auto insurance that doesn’t bankrupt my young adult children with rates well over $1000 a year despite their good but not flawless records because of where they live.

Hey people in the ad agency… what kind of big bonus did you make last year? How about you fellas in the insurance industry? I never got a bonus as a teacher and I bet I had to put up with a lot more headaches than you fellas!

    Insurances: Body/Home/Car
Those 3 insurances makes us a CIVILIZED American people. I agree with President Obama putting a CAP on the costs of these insurances. I have been paying outrageous prices for my car insurance which I drive maybe 20 miles a month. And my expensive home insurance which I make no “claims” on. They will increase your premiums if you make a claim on any of them!!! Insurance companies do need “Regulation Therapy”.

A frightening pattern of not paying valid claims at the cost of major financial loss to the policy holders in areas of homeowner, car, and health insurance has emerged in the last 2 decades. This started when Allstate CEOs adopted the McKensey business model to increase profits and greatly increase their own personal fortunes. The insurance for profit industry has necessitated regulation. Federal Law can apply except where state law is more strict,as it does in Washington state Pharmacy law.

Who is the MORAN that is trying to sell this crap. Insurance companys do nothing today but ripoff the consumers. I don’t see anything here about forcing drivers to carry insurance so I don’t have to pay for uninsured motorist, nothing about the way insurance companys are aloud to charge higher rates if you credit is not beautiful ot the surcharge they impose if you have been involved in an accident that in fact is nothing more than you paying back the money thay pay out for the accident. If you try to switch to another company they also want more money because you were in an accident even though they have never given you a dime. They want this for three years after the accident. What about the wide cost from one company to another. some companys want 500.00 more per year than other. Don’t help me Mr. Government man just control the provider of the insurance.

There should be no car insurance. There should be DRIVER insurance. You are ripped off because you own more than one car even though you can only drive one vehicle at a time. Insure the person with a valid drivers license on a monthly basis. If they loose a license the insurance company would know each month that they collect the cash. No license—no insurance —No car. Impound the car and put the person off the road. SIMPLE even for OBAMA

Present regulations have an adverse impact on low income people as they have lower credit scores, they end up paying more due to credit. They could have a spotless driving record and even if they carried insurance all their life without any lapses, payment never late. they will pay more due to credit. Those usually affected, single parents, recently divorce, people with financial hardships such as medical conditions, unemployment and low income.

‘O’made statements when running for office that he would make changes, The problem with that statement is what changes? Did he state that he would allocate millions, billions and more of our tax dollars and more for the insurance, auto industies and who ever else is in the top ten of this countries richest for bailouts? Did he say that all the money handed out would go to the big guys and drip down to the masses? Also did he say that he would put our children, great grand chldren and on and on to pay for this bale out of the big money people and companys? Also he stated that we would pull out our troops out Irag although not telling we the people that he would send our troops to Afganistan in which he has already started sending our troops of thiry thousand to Afganistan? When the civil war in the U.S. happened did any country come here to help settle our internal war? So why should we go outside our borders to ingauge in someone else’s civil war that has been going on since five or six hundred A.D.years and spent our tax dollars on those country,s civil issues? Yes and not forget the “B’s”,C’s and the rest and them handing out our U.S. tax dollars to also get involved in other countries internal battles! We need to focus on our borders and the terroists that are and have been here for decades going through our school systems, churchs, ect. pretenting to be our friends yet ready to wait the word to destroy us from within. America wake up and see what is really going on here and not so much in foreign lands. They are here and ready to kill us yet I believe only a few are ready to defend our country! I am sorry to say but anyone can say they are born again, although I believe that each one of us go back to our roots,so what are “O’s” roots? He may have been born here at least they say so but he was schooled in Nigeria in a school that is known to and still is intructing on terriotism and to believe that we are the bad seed of Abraham! And that is just the opposite, we are of the good seed of Abraham, his true blood son Issac, read your bible and see for yourself. We need jobs here and not out sourceing and leaving us without jobs! Oh yes, what is the real truth of ‘911’. If anyone would know that there is only one way to implode a building, and that is planting bombs in the main supports of a building and not by an airplane! And what about the third building three blocks away that I beleive housed the I.R.S. that was about ready to go after the wall street thiefs! Lastly, where is all the gold bullion that was stored in the word trade building? Oh what about Verichip traveling the U.S. that this GPS is for the good and what about the black box in our new cars in truth what is the real purpose?
Thank you and do your homework and see for yourself and look forward to you comments.

My husband does not drive (he is visually impaired) and I work from home-We are both over 50 and live in a central location- if it’s less than a mile we walk- believe me everything is in walking distance- pharmacy, groceries, resturants, movie theater, dept. stores and the mall.-on the average, my dear, I drive not only less than 2 hours per day but less than 2 hours per week. I don’t think any insurance company will give anyone a lower rate/frees for driving less! It’s just a scam, just like they did with the Air Bags and the Added Tail Light then the active seat belt, All Scam’s put on by the insurance industry and no one got a reduced rate as advertised. We have a word for this it’s called Racketeering.

Don’t worry about the states, they will all figure out some way to close that financial gap. Maybe the insurance companies will get more write-offs thereby keeping more revenue! How’s that for a nice kickback? As the old saying goes, ” if it sounds too good to be true…watch out!” Yes, it SOUNDS like a great idea and a fair one at that (I too drive less than 2 hours a week!) but somehow, somewhere there’s a catch and that we will not know until all is said and done. They give something and will want SOMETHING back at some point in time!

Lucky me I did vote for Mr.Obama and now what – the whole insurance thing is making it worse for the not so rich as they have to have ins. now and maybe now they have no funds left for food –what a joke .i grew up in Germany and we did not have such a mess( now it is worse there also) . My thoughts are until this country does not get the manufacturing going again and factories in our own country it will not get any better no matter how many stimuuulusssses they butter into it. So I guess we are all hanging from the same tree.

I fell for the scam ad of lowermybills.com. The picture is the handiwork of the scamming company.
Consumers need more insurance regulation here in Oregon, because the local rural companies charge up to $70 more per month than if the same insurance was purchased directly from the company online.
I’m sick of throwing money that I don’t have to a bunch of hyenas. If the insurance workers don’t make it, then they can just get another job!

It’s about time something is done to put “effective Oversight” in place from a federal position, to stop the state’s abuse!

The insurance industry takes full advantage of the working man wherever they can, like Florida where the state will not regulate the industry. Further, since the state is republican dominated, the democrats who do take an interest dont have the guts to take a strong stand in the people’s interest!

Im so tired of being taken advantage of ….at 51 and disabled, with a clean driving record I pay 10% of my meager disability income for minimal coverage, minimal driving; and they keep raising the rates every renewal. What happened to rewarding the good drivers??? It makes me sick to see the abusive drivers who have no clue what the rules of the road are …I strive to follow the rules and I get a kick! It’s counter productive !!!

This two hour driving bit is a scam.

Very few people drive more than two hours a day, except for delivery trucks, taxi cabs, police officers etc.

The scam is that lots of sheeple will be fooled into thinking they are eligible for some kind of ins. discount.

Truth is, even if you’re willing to play along with the ad and spend two hours giving your personal information, it is
almost impossible that you will end up with a discounted offer for the same ins.
    coverage you presently have.

Maybe one person in 10,000 will – due to some anomaly that only applies in very rare situations.

Save time. Save money. Don’t click on scam ads.

does anyone read these things fully and understand the between the lines?
the thought is not to help you as a person. the whole reason for this is some rich insurance companies won’t be allowed to sell insurance in the EU unless they make a federal system.
not sure I care much for insurance being sold to other countries.

someone mentioned in another post about not fixing anything till they get jobs created, not bills to create jobs.
easiest way is to kill the fair trade agreements and tax imports. make it to expensive to import so much stuff.
it’s a win / win the gov gets cash it can use to lower or eliminate taxes on people who can’t afford them (50k or less families) and eventually when they have jobs again, they can afford taxes.

as for health insurance, unless the gov is going to step in and fix the ridiculous prices Dr. hospitals pharmacies are charging there is no point to look at anything gov ran for health care, our gov has always wasted ridiculous amounts money on items they buy so why should I work to have the gov waste money trying to help those without insurance, it would be better for all to fix the dr prices to a standard. lets say you go in the hospital , they can’t charge more than $200-500 a day in any circumstance, total including Dr’s maybe then people could afford go to with or without insurance. me personally I think it’s most ridiculous that a Dr can walk in or not, read a chart and send me a bill.

Well I am hundreds of others were offended and have stopped doing business with these companies. Even though the ads changed, I will never go back to doing business with these companies.
BTW: insurance companies are not rich/bad. Their coverages are spelled out explicitly before you sign up.
Take a lesson from your past. Remember the movies you grew up on? Not all cowboys are good. Not all Indians are bad. (I’m Choctaw-Cherokee mix – so don’t get your political panties twisted). But the same goes for insurance companies. Besides, a good portion of your pensions and retirement accounts are invested in these companies. When they turn a profit, so do you.

I read some of the comments and, as usual whites like to blame anyone who backs reform as being white-haters. black welfare lovers, lazy ni**ers etc. Blacks blame the whites. Both blame immigrants. All totally blind as to the real problem.

The insurance industry just spent 193 million dollars openly buying Congress to stop healthcare reform. Joe ‘pay me and I’m yours’ Lieberman grabbed 10 million in bribes without batting an eyelash. He fakes being ‘orthodox’ Jewish when it suits his purpose (like holding up a vote)yet his very words rebuke his lack of faith. Republicans have united around one platform – keep saying NO to everything and paralyze the government. Let the people starve as long as the millionaires stay rich. Democrats can’t agree on what to have for breakfast.

So-called Christians mock the very basis of their faith as they hold up Bibles in one hand and hate signs in the other. They scream about their God-given right to have guns – though I doubt Jesus would agree with them on a single point.

I am amazed at how many people continually try to force the idea America has ‘the BEST medical coverage in the world’ when, in fact, we lag behind countries like Slovenia, Poland and Hungary. We are currently 29th out of 30 of the major industrial nations in protecting our citizens. 45,000 die annually from lack of medical coverage.

I’ll bet NONE of you know a secret paper was passed by the Bush administration in 2001 revoking the rule that said only licensed nurses could pass meds. Instead, they not only allowed, they encouraged states to get rid of the rule only nurses may give out medications in nursing homes & assisted living facilities. 32 states bit at that apple by 2006 and now 60% of facilities no longer have nurses passing meds. Who is? Aides with as little as 10 days training, housekeepers, and people off the street. California requires a 9 month training course and a license to lose. Most- like Ohio – have nothing – or next to nothing in training besides how to crush pills and fill in paperwork. Oh, and what to do when you screw up.

Over 1 million med errors with HARM are documented annually (it’s believed only 1/4 are actually reported). The cost to taxpayers is 20 billion in hospital visits and ICU care. Over 62,200 DIE each year from these errors – more than died in all of 10 yrs of the Vietnam war. (Again, the actual rate may be well over 130,000 since few familiea demand autopsies when Mom or Grampa dies). Nurses are helpless to notifiy families as to the truth. ONLY IN THE UNITED STATES ARE NON RNS ALLOWED TO GIVE OUT MEDICATIONS AND IT’S DUE TO THE HUGE BRIBES PAID TO CONGRESSPERSONS ON BOTH STATE AND FEDERAL LEVELS.

When disaster strikes our insurance companies spend more money avoiding paying claims than paying what’s due. Then they raise everyone’s rate nationwide to make up the difference – plus more. The profit/loss ratio is so far out of balance as to defy logic or rationality. Our national motto is no longer ‘in G-d We Trust’ but ‘In Greed We Believe’.

Those who hate blacks blame Obama for everything despite his inheriting the WORST economy since 1933, two wars – one of which drove us over a trillion dollars in debt when we illegally invaded a sovereign nation. Plua he-and us are facing a nation whose infrastructure is crumbling before our eyes. Few realize Katrina’s damage was almost entirely due to substandard dyke work by the Army Corp of Engineers, not the storm itself. 5 yrs later and still nothing has been done but repeat the same stupid mistakes and call it progress.

The government is out of control. Greedy congresspersons who have no concscience or worse- those who are members of the infamous ‘C Street Family’ (who actually believe Christ came to empower the rich and believe they are literally above any law of any kind) have destroyed America. We used to demand moral behavior out of our lawmakers; now we just shrug their misdeeds off and say ‘well, they all do it’.

So this mess is just as much OUR fault as it is Congress!

The Patriot Act revoked dozens of citizen rights guaranteed by our Constitution. We were made to be afraid of our own shadows & few protested. Those who did were called traitors by the biggest traitors of all – Cheney, Rove and Bush. Americans, who once believed there was nothing we couldn’t do are now utterly frightened of their own shadows. Fools buy stocks that are worthless, give up their pensions without a whimper, wrap their homes in plastic and die from lack of oxygen because FEAR and stupidity is the order of the day.

Union busting is de-rigeour. Unions gave in to greed and power and lost touch with their workers and are now paying the prices. Who speaks for the citizens?

I refuse to fly anymore. The gov’t and airlines have taken all the fun and all the freedom out of travel. And we let them. Hell, we keep demanding more and more useless ‘safety’ measures because we’re all scared stiff of ‘something’ happening. The last 4 attempts weren’t stopped by the government’s phony security measures or strip-searching grandma. Each was stopped by the other citizens on the plane.

Meanwhile our resort towns are dying. Hawaii, Vegas and even Disneyland are hurting because people can’t afford to fly & don’t want to pay the outrageous fees to bring clothes along. Why bother going to Vegas when gambling is legal in most states? We’ve legalized pretty much every sin in the book except drugs -and that only because prisons keep so many employed. We imprison more citizens than any other nation for revenge, not justice.

We allowed torture to be committed in our name. I’d be willing to bet not one single reader has ever read the Geneva Convention – which America fought to get passed. Yet it has been proven time and again our mistreatment of prisoners fed the ranks of AlQueda and continues to be the #1 reason they continue to fight us. Yet I hear Americans continue to cry ‘no fair laws for non Americans!’ What foolishness to deny the very laws that built our nation.

The Supreme Court rules businesses have the same rights as citizens. Not a single outcry was heard. We are devolving into a 3rd world nation so fast it boggles the mind. All the time this is going on angry fools buy into the race-baiting game designed to keep average citizens eyes off what’s happening – or not happening- in Washington.

What does the writer think about those 7 federally protected dump sites where billions of dollars worth of new equipment is taken to be destroyed month after month because if an agency doesn’t spend its allocation it will be lost – so they buy computers, kitchen cabinets, expensive furniture – you name it – and then destroy it unused?

Stop blaming the poor. Stop blaming blacks. Stop the hate. Start kicking out of office EVERY single member whose been in longer than 2 terms. (I’ll let Dennis Kucinich stay – the media makes him out to be weird, but every single thing he’s said has been proven to be true. Like how Bush was dragging us into an illegal invasion of Iraq based on pure lies. He doesn’t take one dime of corporate money and oh, how they hate him. That’s reason enough to keep the man.)

Certain branches of the government sole purpose is to keep YOU ignorant and fighting amongst yourselves you’d be turning on those who are to blame. Wise up.

Start paying attention to your congressperson- where does he/she get the bulk of their money. How many special interests do they let in while barring YOU access? How about this – pass a Constitutional amendment banning any legislator from having better medical insurance than the worst coverage given to the average citizen?

This isn’t a black white immigrant citizen issue folks. It’s who’s buying into the lies and hype of our state and federal whores. No, wait. Whores have better standing. They at least deliver something useful for the money they’re paid.

IMHO: Maybe some should reread the “White Paper”, which read that the European Union (EU) has different country member’s, who also comply with an EU agency’s requirement: Any and all “Insurance” issued in any EU member’s country, must have (apparently) a “national agency” to oversee uniform insurance regulations.” IF a country, such as the US, does not have such an “agency”, then those “member country’s” of the EU’s, can prohibit any and all US-based countries, from conducting business in these respective countries, until such time as the US does establish a national agency, which meets the EU’s requirement(s), as their other “member country’s” have done. So, “National” negates the issue of “State’s Rights”, as apparently this is part of the problem: each state’s Insurance Regulations vary from state-to-state – hence no “uniformity” and does not meet the EU’s requirements. As for “Patriotism”: Does not this include the expansion of US-based business’, which should also increase US jobs? Increase tax revenues, which our economy needs?
My “?” in the Subject Line, is due to the fact that I only read the “Subject Lines” of this “topic”; that apparently someone might have made (insinuated) a racial slant to their “post”? If so, this is sad. I reside in a US state, which has some of the worst “Insurance Regulation” I have ever seen: Consumers AND Business’ both suffer because of this; jobs are lost, insurance rates keep going up, while our Physician’s (and other allied healthcare providers), keep leaving for “other states”, which have more reasonable insurance rates. Even auto sales can be driven, in part, by insurance rates; medical care costs; recreational programs (baseball, Soccer, etc.) shrink OR disappear – because of Insuance rates. MAYBE this NATIONAL AGENCY is just what we need, especially during the difficult financial times…

As much as we pay in auto, medical and house insurance and most often don’t even get to use it we should get a kickback from the money we pay monthly a % of some kind….whats even worse if your credit isn’t up to standards they want to charge you more for insurance, does not make a lot of sense when the whole reason your credit might be bad is because of the high cost of living….people should get a break once in a while if they don’t get to use their insurance then they should be entitled to some money back…..thats showing you are a cautious driver or a good homeowner. Medical should not have a deductible…do we get a deductible in our payments??????

Logikal1 I absolutely love your comments and if you don’t mind will print & send to my bitter angry Christian GOP father who just yesterday blamed the economy on abortion… yep he said that if the USA did not abort 60 million babies they would be tax paying productive citizens, and their taxes & productivity would have prevented the recession… I just love it when gun-toting Jesus freak say stupid things!
