I don’t suppose he has been watching the news or anything over the past 18 months or so. He must be so confused!
“Why was scotch decanter in my office refilled with this Dewar’s garbage? I specifically asked for 20 year old single malt! What are we, savages?”
I’d give him the personal use of a private jet. He’s a target internationally because of his position. It is more of a security issue than it is a convenience. Few people know that Maurice Greenberg was debriefed by the CIA after every one of his international trips. Few people know that Mr. Greenberg alerted the US to Iraq’s pending invasion of Kuwait while George Bush (the Dad) was in office. Unless you really know the power of that position don’t presume someone is trying to be cheap or to get over on the American taxpayer. Mr. Benmosche may have been tending to grapes in Croatia…or maybe he had other business. The readers of this article will never know.
what happened to driving his own personal car to anywhere? or matter of fact, is it not cheaper for him to fly commerical? besides the company jet was for company use!!! as a taxpayer/shareholder, i would sue him for use of the company jet for personal use. he is getting paid rather well for his job as a CEO! so let his personal be personal and not company!
Just another wino. He likes to raise grapes. Where’s his focus. Only on the job a little while and already interviewed in Croatia and now worried about personal use. Time frr the rocking chair again.
I think the bigger question is how many private jets does AIG still have, and why haven’t they been sold? Private jets are a convenience and yes, when you have a group of company officers all going to the same place, they are great for facilitating business on the way to the meeting. But, they are a convenience and if you cannot afford one, you shouldn’t have one.
Now, since they still have it, let Benmoche use it for personal travel and just bill him for what the total costs would be, including indirect costs such as insurance.
Just imagine how many of this so called “personal use”, jet or what not, are going on to most if not all of these lucrative companies who were bailed out of our tax monies.
How dare this arrogant, egotistical, spoiled, old many ask for a private jet for “personal business”? He is being paid to attempt to put humpty dumpty back together, not spend weeks in Croatia supervising the harvesting of his vineyards. Why to companies always fish in the same old pond of old pus bags who are finished with their careers and know nothing about the current economic problems? There must be some fresh talent out there that isn’t on social security.
Funny, but way off base and we don’t know the context of how he asked or what he really wanted the jet for. Further, Benmosche was a great choice for AIG and my money is on him to turn it around, not be a political puppet like the previous guy, and eventually pay back the government (us).
No more talk about selling when “the capital markets come back”, no more CEO hiring/firing headlines, no more IJ AHG articles for us to post comments on (much time savings right there!). Just let the jet go down with the company for what we can get for all those “wonderful”, highly performing wholly owned companies (if they’re really sooo goood they’ll sell for biiig bucks). Then we can get on with our lives…………maybe. Yeah, we’ll be net losers but we’re going to be anyway. And again some “wonderful” people may lose their jobs but if they are really wonderful and valuable they’ll keep it under the new company.
Ben Dover…….I think you “bent over” a bit too far and your head is stuck where the sun don’t shine. He specifically asked for use of private jet for “PERSONAL BUSINESS”. What don’t you understand? Since being named president, he hasn’t done a thing except fly to Croatia to look after his grapes, wines, and mansion. Yeah….he’d got his priorities straight. Why didn’t they find someone who’s looking to build a career instead of an already rich retiree from a life insurance company whose skill set is “dated”? I’d be happy to take your bet this “grandpa” will do much if anything at all.
AIG needs to be selling the jets, cars, furniture, artwork, whatever of value, to pay off their debt to the american people. Then and only then should they think about anything like that. And, they should sell their insurance businesses much faster than they have. Then liquiddate and give to the original stockholders what is left over.

Or how many politicians do the same under the guise of business or politics! Oops.

Hey Dan, I like your “pus bags” adjective.

nice sarcasm Ben Dover!!!

Hmmmm……I thought insiders referred to him as “Hank”.
I will bet you a bottle of good Croation Red Zinfandel that he is a success!
As President Obama said of Kanye West the other day, what a jack#@!
Oh, horrors!! Nancy Pelosi will be soooo upset. How can just ANYBODY get a private jet? These need to be reserved for the “ruling class”.
You’re on. I doubt we’ll have to wait too long before the verdict is in

1. AIG should have been allowed to die along with all the greedy SOBs that created the mess in the first place.
2. If Benmosche is so rich and important he can pay for his own security detail and transportation on personal time.
3. Careful Stan; that bet is a trick. There is no such thing as “good” Croation Zinfandel.
