If a sitting president had the gall to question the definition of “is” then we can’t be surprised when an oil company questions the definition of “legitimate.”

am i the only one sick and tired of these dopey “hearings” that basically only exist so senators can grandstand? You think the Big Oil folks care that some hack senator is saying “BAD oil person! YOU shouldn’t have done that!” Maybe they could focus on cleaning up the mess instead?

I think it is time that the “inquiry” and blame shifting ends and that the parties involved, including the Federal Government work together to fix this mess. Sitting around on capital hill trying to decide who is more at fault is doing nothing!! Typical of government to “try to lock the door, increase penalty retroactive and generally blame everyone instead of assisting in working out a solution.

I’m so proud of our elected officials. I could just puke! Why do these grandstanding fools take such pride in slamming business after an accident or unfortunate event. One would think that they should maybe regulate before such event so that it would not occur. Did we ever see the senate go after Freddie or Fanny?
Time to vote them all out.

    Ladies, Gentlemen..calm down.
Here’s something for you to remember EVERYTIME something bad like this happens..
Pay attention now..” IT”S ALL ABOUT MONEY”
    That’s it, plain & simple.
-Do you think the creeps running BP or any other company give a good g-damn about you, me or the ecology ?
ALL they care about is money
Look at Wall St, & the debacle which the whole world is still suffering through..
All these rats care about is “making plan” or making bonus”..-they don’t give a damn about how they do it.
And yes: it IS willful blindness, whether it was Enron, Societe General,AIG Countrywide, etc..they’re all knowingly doing crooked things to fatten their purse. A
And the public, the government,& the ecology be damned.
-SOLUTION: Tough universal enforcement with mandatory minimum jail time of at least 10 years AND..restitution.
In other words, WHERE’S THE GELT !?
They put Madoff in prison, fine.
    But where’s the money ?

It is laughable to think that anyone in either house of Congress can conduct a meaningful investigation of this catastrophe. They are all pontificating blowhards that should be replaced in the next elections!

    My how cynical u r……
    Hope your personal life improves.

My brother, along w/80,300 other employees, has been working for BP for 20+ years.
You don’t know what you’re talking about.

    Senate Hearing:
I watched the whole thing. One goofy Senator asked each person in turn “Can you guarante this won’t happen again? ” They all said “No” in turn. What a waste of time. Can anyone guarantee a plane won’t crash, a boat won’t sink, an automobile accident won’t happen, a mine won’t cave in, on and on…………

…these people have got to go. I have never seen more inept, self absorbed, arrogant politicians than the ones we have in office now, and it’s getting worse by the day. Please people, we have got to clean house in November before it’s too late. Both parties!

It’s easy to say “throw the bums out” and many of them deserve it. But who do you put in their place? Finding an honest person now is as difficult as it was in ancient times when Diogenes was searching for one with his lantern. Many politicians are self serving, lazy, arrogant and dishonest and the American people have recently come to a full realization of this. How many public servants have actually read and understand the 2,000 or so pages of the recent Medical Reform Legislation? This situation is almost as challenging as trying to separate the terrorists from the (so called) innocent civilians without violating our constitution.

I know you all love to bash congress, especially now that your side is in the minority, but how about some kind thoughts for the people of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast who actually have to live with this just after getting back on their feet after Katrina.

Talk is that the oyster beds are down for at least three years. And who knows how long the the shrimpers and other fishermen will be out of work.

Why don’t you think of the harm u liberals have done to America by electing a “know-nothing” President, spawned from the crooked Chicago politicos, who says Muslims were an important of America ‘s History and who appointed one thug after another to leadership positions, cannot pronounce “Corpsman” , who has NO knowledge of real American History and is committed to “spreading the wealth” even to people who have done NOTHING to deserve it (contrary to Human Nature), which is proven by failed governments all over the world not to work?
Answer one question, Mr Liberal Agent, what qualifies BHO to be President? Is it his experience as a “community organizer” or his unique ability to lie with a straight face?

Another blind liberal. Read the posts…

All members of Congress need to go! Dems and Reps alike.

Regardless of your political preference, the dems in Congress are instigating most of the BS.

The Republicans are just playing politics at this point, so they also need to go. In the end, we the people are the real losers.

If you take the gov’t out of the equation, then maybe the oil spill can actually get fixed (instead, Congress is wasting time grandstanding because elections are coming up).

Who said they didn’t have compassion for those affected by this? Who are you referring to?

It’s your party members who are stalling the process.

Seriously, the best response you could make was about Bush? Are they any intelligent liberals out there in our industry?

As ALWAYS these commentaries become reduced to inane Republican-Democrat name calling, which is just what the pols bank on; if we are diverted into fighting over non issues, we cannot put the scrutiny on the fact that our highest legislative bodies are controlled by big interests, whether they be business or union. Regardless of whether you consider yourself a liberal or a conservative, the fact remains that NONE of us are getting our monies worth from our federal legislatures since they have all been co-opted by larger interests.

I thought we were supposed to have a system that worked to compromise for the common good. I thought we were supposed to have a systm that was based on majoritarian rule with protection for the minority rights that are so precious to nus all.

I am so totally disgusted with this stupid and inane name calling; Obama is not the Anti_-Christ and Sarah palin is not the new (female) Messiah…you are all fiddling while Rome is burning.

Get serious; act your iq’S AND SAY SOMETHING SUBSTANTIVE AND TO THE POINT FOR A CHANGE.

And, yes, I consider myself an intelligent liberal who would be more than willing to sit down with men of good faith to help resolve the many issues present and future that confront us…something our Congress can’t seem to manage.

PS…this oil spill is a tragedy for all. While the “drill, baby, drill” contingent still wants off shore drilling, to what real end? Had BP spent the billions they will spend for clean up of this spill on solar energy development, would we really have this problem or this issue? if our Congress even got some spine and refused to continue to subsidize these money making giants or close the doors of Congress to their lobbyists, do you rally think we would be having this dialogue?

I am tired to death of the pusillanimous pandering surrounded by political bombast (from both parites) toward big interests with big bucks lobbyists. Our Congress is as corrupt as Goldman Sachs, Wall Street, and various other self serving and self seeking entities….
