Obviously they don’t rank the pro’s with the amateurs. QBE is one of the most profitable and highest performing companies in the world. Combined ratios have been in the high 80’s and low 90’s consistently. Not even a mention in this ranking?
One thing surprises me is the large number of smaller mutuals that are on this list. I think this proves that the insurance business is still a relationship business and you get that with the smaller, closer to the front line carriers.
You are correct; the four missing ones are –
Brethrem Mutual Insurance Company
First Insurance Company of Hawaii, LTD
FM Global
Franklin Mutual Insurance Group.
Were there 50 named or only 46?

Good call Mathieu!
where is State farm on this list. what caused them to not make it?
Ask your neighbor…
That’s a good question cy and a stupid reply remebers! Why is SF not on this list?
Go to Wards and look at the methodology. Clearly State Farm didn’t make the measurement criteria.
Where is American Family Mutual? Are they still in bad shape?
