Why, if they are simply overhauling the cyber networks of the government, is legislation required? Thismakes absolutely no sense whatsoever. If you need to update systems and networks, you budget for the infrastructure and build it. Why is legislation needed at all?

This seems to me to be a wolf in sheeps clothing security measure. This opens up the government’s authority to interecept your communications. Thus, censorship in the name of security. There is no security in this bill but the only security is for government being able to control it’s citizens lives and freedoms. I believe that private enterprise security measures are best according to consummer’s choosing. The second Bill of Rights is not for government but for the people. It is our right of freedom to defend ourselves not government removing freedom to protect itself against you.

I agree with all above. This is new legislation that will invade our privacy. The very same privacy that so many were concerned abou during the years following 9/11 and the intrusion of Homeland Security. Where are all the screemers now? Do they really not care about the issue, but only who or what party is pushing it? If so, we will soon be hanged by our own noose!
    God help us.

I fail to see how some law is going to increase security at all. If the systems are not up-to-date, then update them. Don’t just pass a law to hand-slap people caught exploiting the vulnerabilities in the system after they have already crippled some system. We need to keep it from happening in the first place not just push a law to punish them after they’ve done it.

Just another example of Obama telling us he knows better than we do.
I say, go ahead and secure your government computers. Let me take care of my own. I don’t want him running any more of my business than I can help. Dodd-Frank’s depth of penetration into the financial services and lending sectors have effectively killed any future innovation or productivity improvements in those industries. Once Shanghai, Abu Dhabi, London and Frankfurt pass New York, financial services will be another protected industry like Government Motors. Great.
