Why should we (taxpayers) pay, not just ONCE, but over and over for you to live waterfront? After we pay ONCE, you are not eligible…if you want to, and can afford to rebuild on your own, then go for it. Same for folks who keep rebuilding riverfront properties. Every Spring when water levels rise, houses flood and we keep paying. What’s the old expression…doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results! Again, it is your right to live there if you can afford it, but don’t expect us to keep rebuilding for you. In case you had not heard, we are BROKE and have to borrow 30-40 cents of every dollar to keep this going????

Good one DJ. I agree that the taxpayers should not continue to fund coverage for people that choose to live near a body of water whether it is the ocean front, lake, river, creek etc. This fund has $3.3 Billion in it to pay flood claims and they expect about $15 Billion in claims. Congress will probably just appropriate the money to pay on dollars they are borrowing from China. At some point, we should just say there is an assumption of risk living there. It is not a matter of when a storm will come along, just when it is going to happen. People should just expect to pay through the nose to live in these areas.

This is what happens when the government gets involved in insurance.

I saw a sign on the news this morning at the FEMA office in NY. It said closed due to inclement weather. ???? Our tax dollars at work, right?

Well the flood program is just one part of the “government is the solution” mindset. Obamacare is the next big one. We will be in real trouble once the country can no longer borrow money and I fear for our country then.

Rusty, I started fearing for the country in January -09 and it has been unabated since then. The election just proved that we have more takers in our society than givers. These people want all the free stuff Obama has promised them. Never mind that the country is broke and looking into the abyss of bankruptcy. Hey, we can just print more money and make it all good again.
