It remains to be seen whether this is a positive. We were appointed by Zurich, then it changed to Farmers and now to Foremost. Zurich is a multi headed monster with numerous divisions. We haven’t done a lot with them except for Builders Risk and some package business. I hope they do become a market again.
Well there goes a decent insurance company……Anything that get’s turned over to a Farmers Company is going to be over priced and more than likely exclusive to the captive agent.
Everytime they have switched underwriting people, we have seen a decline. Farmer’s people didn’t know what they were doing with Commercial and were no help. Foremost is a mobile home writer for the most part. Why do I believe they will not be any better. The Zurich group is hard to figure and they don’t act like our other markets.
More likely the Zurich products will be offered through Foremost, at a higher price, because Foremost pays a management fee to Farmers Group Inc, and the captive agent will be Excluded from this market because it competes with the Farmers commerical product lines.
I don’t know how it could get any higher. Zurich was already one of the highest on business we were quoting. We had both markets, but I wonder where the marketing will come from. The typical Foremost marketing rep didn’t know squat about business packages and other lines Zurich writes. We have also had a merry go round with reps and we never know who it will be next month. Not a good prescription for growth.
I am interested in speaking with an agent about this change for a story I am working on. Please contact me at aoconnor@insurancejournal.com or call 619-584-1100 ext. 164 if you would like to comment.
Finally — a little piece of good news for Foremost agents.

Since I am a Foremost agent,I am very happy to be able to offer more products to my clients. For me this will be a win-win.
I’ve adopted a “wait and see” attitude on this one. Our Zurich service did not improve when the hub of activity moved to Farmers.
