Wow. Now I’m scarred. I guess you did not see this spot with Ronald Reagan arguing against Medicare:

      http://www.winningprogressive.org/remembering-when-reagan-campaigned-against-medicare

In his view, we would be headed to communism but creating medicare. Another republican prediction gone bust. Now ding bats like Paul Ryan make Medicare a campgaign issue saying Obamacare will end Medicare.
That’s all republicans are good for these days; doomsday predictions that don’t come true. The best thing this country can do is run completely counter to the republican platform.

If you think Obamacare is socialism, you need to go back to school. The private insurance companies will make out like bandits on this one.

Not all of their predictions were doomsday – Rush Limbaugh swore that if Obamacare got passed, he would move to Costa Rica. Unfortunately, he didn’t live up to his promise. It’s funny that he picked Costa Rica, where they have universal healthcare!

        Wow. Now I’m just scared.

When republicans mentioned the mandate during HW’s presidency the liberals were in disarray because the private insurance companies would make out like bandits. Clinton attempted to make that a part of his 1993 model I might add, he ran on it. So he must have really liked HW’s plan.

Now that the insurance companies actually are (supposedly, from one democrat’s opinion “you”) making out like bandits, the democrats are going from doom and gloom to roses.

One of the two parties just made a switch on what the mandate does, while disguising their true interests perhaps?

D, you try to sound clever but please. You don’t yet have politics figured out. At all.

The only political issue with Obamacare is that no one wants it! Even Unions now, Government Employees and the Obama supporters who have received their exemption from it. Just like the head of the IRS said in congressional hearings. “Why would anyone want to be placed in an insurance exchange if you do not have to?”

Like how they want to control women’s bodies? Like the way they want to continue wasting billions of our tax dollars on controlling what a person puts into their own body? Republicans, especially the TEA (Taliban Evangelicals of America) Party, are the ones who want to control our lives, by turning this country into a religious dictatorship.

I have a quick question, I do P&C and don’t really know all the in’s and out’s of Benefits coverage, but I do have my employer Health coverage…..But what happens if a person goes to the ER, has no insurance and hasn’t signed up for an “Exchange”? Is the hospital going to refuse to treat them? I know there is a “fine”, but if you can’t afford insurance, you can’t afford a fine, how are they going to get it? The old proverbial, “Can’t get blood from a turnip” statement.

If you can’t afford insurance, there are subsidies available to help make it affordable. I’m sure the hospital will treat the patient, but there is probably some type of reporting to the IRS that the person is uninsured.

Why can’t it mean allocating taxes already being paid into the system? My taxes haven’t increased. If someone making $2M has a slight increase in taxes, that will not hurt my feelings whatsoever. He’ll just take it back with some loophole or unknown deduction his fancy accountant works out for him. I don’t know about you, but I do my taxes on TurboTax because I can’t afford an accountant. And I’m sure I pay every nickel I’m supposed to. And then some. If some of that money goes to subsidize healthcare for someone else, that’s alright with me.

My taxes have gone up and they’ve gone down throughout the years. My marginal federal tax rate is 19% in 2013. It would have been much higher in 1980 for the same amount of payroll. My beef isn’t so much with the taxes I pay but the fact I have no say where the money goes. If it’s for funding a war in Syria versus providing healthcare for U.S. citizens, then I don’t like it.

I am classified as a small business owner and I am getting hosed by taxes and more are sure to come as this Administration seeks to destroy small business with their taxes and regulation. This is the biggest redistribution of income scheme in American history. It is not about Healthcare, but control over every aspect of our lives. Progressives are all about control, hence the 15,000 pages of regulations attached to this bill.

Agent, you’re right about that wealth redistribution. Every time I put gas in my car, the wealth is being redistributed to the wealthy. Our entire economy has shown an increase in wealth redistribution to the wealthy. Progressive efforts would actually slow the REAL redistribution of wealth (to the wealthy, which is where it’s actually been going).

Not to sound snarky, but the law of large numbers is the fundamental principle of the insurance business. That is why more for less WILL work. When you have more people paying premium, the premiums of many pay for the losses of the others. Granted, a socialistic approach, but none-the-less that’s why it works. When the healthy buy in (or pay the tax penalty) those $ pay for the claims of the sick. Just like, fire, auto, and every other line of insurance.

Insurance actuaries are always making assumptions. That’s how it works, FFA. If they don’t buy in, they will be hit with a $1,200 tax penalty. If they can buy coverage for less than $100 per month, which most healthy under-30 person can do with a catastrophic policy, why would they not buy in? Either way, we are guaranteed $1,200 per person (not including any subsidy.) I think it COULD work.

Bill, the reason why this is not Health Insurance is that there is no underwriting at all. The application is concerned with income to qualify for subsidies or not. I have seen the app. Compared to the health apps we have used over the years, nothing is asked. You can be on your death bed and still get coverage and the company will have to pay. Do you think that is a sound approach to writing health insurance? All this bill does is re-distribute wealth and is not about health insurance per se. The takers of our society will get one more entitlement.

There pricing tier using age, gender, and tobacco use. That is a form of underwriting. If you are single, 50 year-old male, you will pay more than a married 30 year-old male that doesn’t smoke. Since there can be no pre-X exclusion, past medical history is irrelevant. I know you are negative Nellie and it is against your politics &/or religion to think this idea could work, but it could. And if it does, it would be a great thing for this nation’s citizens.

If it is going to be so good, why have almost all the government unions and labor unions and the businesses that financially supported Obama in his endless campaign obtained waivers from having to comply with the ACA? Huh? I hear crickets.

This law is awful and needs to be defunded!

Sarah, you are being too kind to call this law awful. It is not a Healthcare fix, but a redistribution of wealth pyramid scheme and a way to tax Americans more if they don’t want it. Everyone who voted for this trash without reading it should be cashiered out of office. Some who voted for it already lost their career by being voted out in the 2010 midterms. Nancy did throw them a good going away party though.

Sarah, Did you see the latest Gallup Poll on the President’s approval rating? This is along the lines of GW in his last year in office.

      Approval Rating – Economy – 35%
      Overall Approval Rating – 44%
      Approval Rating – Taxes – 36%
      Approval Rating – Budget Deficit – 26%

As bad as these numbers are, Congress has a 14% approval rating which is falling more after they pulled the fast one exempting themselves from Obamacare after they voted it in.

Dear Agent, Sarah and Potty Mouth Patti Cakes,

If you don’t like the law, go out and make one of your own; however, your party has a severe disability with being able to talk the talk and walk the walk — so we know nothing will be accomplished by the Republicans.

    Capiche?

Celtica, I think it was your party that passed this piece of trash in the middle of the night without reading it or knowing what the ramifications would be. Oops! Max Baucus (D) called it a train wreck and even the idiot Howard Dean, former head of the DNC said the Death Panels needed to go.

What makes me a potty mouth?? Because I asked Shirley if I could call her (him??) Dick? I know a lot people named Dick and they don’t get offended when I say their name. See? Dick is name. Dick Clark. Dick Martin. On the other hand, it can also be used as a verb. “Don’t dick around with Shirley”. See? You come to IJ, AND you get a grammar lesson. God Bless America!!!

Agent: Death panels are a figment of that half term governor Sarah Palin’s imagination. Besides, if you are siding with someone you call an idiot, far be it from me to dissuade from his side.

You want a better law? Go make one. Sheesh.

FFA, I was pleased to see JJJr get 30 months for all his nefarious activities, but don’t quite understand his wife only getting 12 months for filing false tax returns. I guess daddy made a few phone calls to get these light sentences. Jr. supposedly has to do 400 hours of Community Service when he gets out. Does that mean Community Organizing or will he be picking up trash on the streets.

Yea. Because he was diagnosed Bi polar, he is entitle to $8700 @ Disability.
He also seemingly is entitle to his federal pension.

He gets a three year vacation to Club Fed and gets paid for it.

            Nice set up there JR.

Crime appears to pay with Progressive Socialist politicians, especially if their friends are in high places. He apparently won’t see a tough prison and have to be worried about being put in with Tyrone or learn the new meaning of “Kid”. All that disability will just accumulate while he is gone, then he can come out and go to work for daddy like nothing ever happened.
