it is INSANE how people are making Ebola out to be the greatest threat to our safety and health, when one person has perished on US soil. I say leave it to our great President, and his new Ebola czar, and stop buying into the fear mongering being generated by the Republicans. They are only trying to distract everyone while they try to steal the 2014 election with Koch Brothers money

Your great President Rosie? His new lawyer minion Czar? Wow, you have been brainwashed thoroughly, haven’t you? Roughly 70% of the American people think your President is not great and has no clue what he is doing. Most think that someone who understands medicine and more importantly communicable diseases should be the Czar, not an insider attorney who reports to Susan Rice??????

Agent, Obama successfully mitigated the Ebola epidemic, in spite of the fact that Texas did it’s level best to screw the proverbial pooch, infecting a poor 26 year old sweetheart nurse in the process.

Id say you of all people ought to be thankful to Barry O. He literally saved your life. You’re welcome.

That is not a persuasive analogy. Ebola has not spread in the US. This is an objective statement. It is provable.

You brought up a war on an idea (a war started by Bush btw). There is no objective way to show success or failure.

Debate harder brah, you can do it.

Although he didn’t specifically say it, the implication was the Obama mitigated the Ebola virus in the U.S. And that statement still holds true. There has been no virulent outbreak here. 2 cases of people bringing it into the U.S. and 2 cases of healthcare workers getting it. I don’t think 4 cases is grounds for using the word “epidemic.” It’s an epidemic in Africa.

I am saying take this very seriously…people like you and Libby scare the hell out of me, and I am not a Republican either..but I am cautious person anyways, and even more so now. It is people like you and Libby with these “it’s all good” and “quit being hysterical” attitudes dismissing this threat, yes threat and possibly helping to contribute to the spread of it.

I think you and Libby should both offer your homes as a quarantine zones…let them stay with you, your not worried about it right??

People, please know that not all Democrats/Liberals think like these two…I would dare say most don’t, but I am no expert, have not taken any polls and have no great links to provide for proof.

When did I ever say Ebola was not a serious health issue? All I said is learn the facts and don’t panic. I guess you’d rather have everyone running around in hazmat suits and rubber gloves.

Let the experts address the threat. That’s what they’re there for. And Rosie’s right. Only two cases of Ebola contracted so far in the U.S. Hardly an epidemic at this point in time. But I know that’s not sexy or exciting enough for you Republicans (and yes, Awe, you’re a Republican. I don’t care what you say to the contrary because you don’t have a brain in your body.) You guys love to feed off the crises of the week/month/day because your lives are so mundane otherwise.

This is NOT a political issue, but everyone on the right is making it one. Hmmmmm. What’s that all about? Concerned about November 4th? Move along people. There’s nothing to see here.

So KY, inquiring minds want to know what your proper precautions would be if there is an outbreak of Ebola in your community. Would you run down to the Army/Navy surplus store and pick up a suit and respirator and gloves? What if you had a friend in the hospital with it? Would you go visit them? By the way, this isn’t the flu, but the flu season is on the way. I wonder how the medical personnel will recognize the difference since many of the symptoms are very similar.

Proper precautions if there’s an outbreak in my community? My first thought would be to stay far enough away from anyone who is even a little sick. 15 feet? I can’t imagine bodily fluids being able to travel that far, but I’d actually have to do some research on that.

Also, no, I wouldn’t go visit anyone in the hospital. Not that I do that now, so it’s not like any of my friends would expect me to be there. Of course, the nearest hospital to me is really a glorified first aid station, so they’d have to transport a suspected Ebola ASAP. I doubt either of the big university hospitals in KY could handle an Ebola case. They’re more trauma than infectious disease specialists. Not sure where they’d transfer someone from KY.

How will medical personnel handle flu season? I don’t work in a hospital anymore, so I don’t have to know. Am I ever glad of that. I have no doubt there are many people in health care working on that as we discuss it.

Thank you for your well thought out answer KY. I have been putting up with troll Libby for over a day now and she thought I was stupid to ask the question you brought up. I don’t blame you for not trying to visit a friend with Ebola. It is not as if they would let visitors see them unless it is through Plastic and that might be reserved for close relatives. By the way, last week before he got into so much trouble for saying it, the wonderful CDC head said any hospital in America could treat Ebola. Your example is correct that there aren’t many in the US capable of providing the containment units or treat this terrible virus. Now, the CDC has awakened from their slumber to issue new protocols to every hospital and many hospitals are clamoring to get suits, respirators and instructions on how to take them off after treatment. Let’s hope that we don’t have any more cases and we keep the influx of people from west African countries to a very few, if any.

I do remember haz mat training and decontamination pop up tents. I honestly don’t remember if the haz mat suits covered all skin. However, that doesn’t change the fact that the little county “hospital” nearest to me would not be able to handle this level of contagion. In my (not so humble) opinion.

Attention All Liberals: NY has their first Ebola case from a doctor who treated patients in Liberia, didn’t serve his incubation time of 21 days there or here, came down with it, had been riding the subways, bowling and going out to eat. Now NY can panic and try to track down everyone he was in contact with. Sounds a lot like Dr. Nancy Snyderman, medical correspondent for NBC whose cameraman was exposed and her crew was put on quarantine and she disregarded it. See, Texas is not the only place this horrible virus can be in. With 8 million people packed into a small area, they better hope they have a handle on this.

I saw reports that we are allowing 150 people per day from west African nations to enter this country. All we apparently are doing is taking their temperature and asking if they were exposed to Ebola. It is pretty easy to lie just like the guy did who came in with the disease and the long incubation period. Like other African nations bordering on Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea, we should also ban travel to this country in the interests or our public health.

So draetish, one of my Conservative friends sent me the following summary boiling down the 10,535 pages of Obamacare with all the changes, additions and Executive Orders. It is funny, but absolutely true and typical of Progressive Liberals.
            1. In order to insure the uninsured, we have to first uninsured the insured.
            2. Next, we require the newly uninsured to be re-insured.
            3. To re-insure the newly uninsured, they are required to pay extra charges to be re-insured.
            4. The extra charges are required so that the original insured, who became uninsured can be insured, and then became re-insured, can pay enough extra so that the original uninsured can be insured, which will be free of charge to them.

This is known as “redistribution of wealth” which is more commonly known as “Socialism”.

For the last 5 decades, the gap between wealthy and poor has widened at an alarming rate. The middle class and small business owner are getting squeezed out of existence only to benefit a very small minority at the top. Why doesn’t that bother you?

The days of working a job your entire life, owning a home, owning 2 cars and a savings account, and having the kids being raised by Mom at home are OVER. Why doesn’t that bother you?

Why would you rather line the pockets of fat cats on Wall Street and corporate CEO’s and board members than make sure your fellow citizens have access to quality healthcare?

I don’t understand the Republican platform at all. Unless it’s all about the money. But the funny thing is, you’ll NEVER be in that elite minority at the top no matter how much we lower your taxes. There is no more “American Dream.” That’s so sad it makes me cry. Why doesn’t that bother you, too?

Has anyone on the news actually spoken to a member of ISIS? I am having trouble believing that is part of their game plan. Talk about a complicated set of logistics.

So Libby, do you also dispute that ISIS/ISIL is trying to recruit people all over the Globe by use of the internet and Social Media? They did that with the guy in Canada, the three teenage girls in Minnesota who made it all the way to Germany on their way to Syria to fight for ISIS before being apprehended. Young impressionable kids who are already disaffected in some way are easily drawn into this kind of thing. I am amazed that the parents never seem to know why the kids did what they did. Canada has now received their wake up call. I wonder when you will wake up to the evils of Islam.

Hey draetish, following are 5 of the best sentences you will ever read. It will get numerous dislikes from Libby and her crowd, but I could care less.
            1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity, by legislating the wealth out of prosperity.
            2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
            3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from someone else.
            4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.
            5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them; and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work, because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that is the beginning of the end of any nation.

Libby, I to am sad for this country and how the economy has been basically ruined for a lot of people. I know you can’t understand it, but with the advent of Progressive Socialism, an entitlement society where half the population supports the other half, where politicians waste and spend our money unwisely leading to ever increasing taxes and cost of living increases, those are just a few reasons why everything is out of whack. Do not attempt to blame Conservatives who are for fiscal responsibility for this economy. If you want to blame someone, blame the guy you voted for twice and his minions for doing this to the country.

Agent – I wish all the problems in this country were caused by Democrats. That would make it so easy to fix. Unfortunately, things are not that simple.

Assigning blame will not solve anything either. If you think Obama is 100% responsible for everything, you’re a simpleton. This country has been going down the tubes for decades. It didn’t just happen overnight.

In addition, 50% of the country does not support the other 50%. Many of that 50% are seniors on SSI, which they worked for and paid into. Also, many of that 50% are working people that do not pay FEDERAL tax because of the tax structure. They still pay state and local taxes and contribute to the economy.

I can’t believe someone that supposedly has an Economics degree actually believes that the solution to such complex problems is as simple as changing parties. If it were, I would have done that a long time ago.

Agent, you really are dense. Corporations create a profit, and a byproduct – – an externality of that if you will – – is a job. That being said, jobs cost the company money, and as you’re seeing with this jobless recovery, companies are finding that they dont have to hire / increase wages very much in order to get back to historic profitability levels.

This is what happens when you follow republican policies and allow for a massive glut in the labor supply. Closer to you, you see the effects with Geico + Esurance crippling the small insurance shop, since consumers now no longer have the disposable income necessary to pay for better service.

By the way, had your government agency, the wonderful CDC issued proper protocols some time ago when Ebola was breaking out in Africa and we had doctors coming and going over there, the Dallas cases may have been prevented. The CDC guy testified that all hospitals in the US could treat cases. That couldn’t be farther from the truth. So Libby, as usual, you are talking from the Liberal perspective and I am talking from the Conservative perspective. Let’s leave out Social Security recipients who receive monthly income from a system they paid into for their whole working lives. I am talking about half the population who pay “No” Federal Income tax at all, have no skin in the game and receive massive entitlements. Those are the ones the other 50% are paying for. If you don’t understand that concept, you will never get anything else about what is wrong with this economy. I suppose I should have widened the blame from just Obama to include all the other Progressive minions like Pelosi, Reid, Schumer, Boxer, Sheila Jackson Lee, Maxine Waters, Charly Rangel, Bawney Frank, Chris Dodd and a couple dozen others who have been stealing from the American People for the past 30-40 years. Here’s a little lesson for you today. Of the 47% of Americans that don’t pay federal income tax, 28% work and pay other taxes; 10% are on SSI; only 7% of the 47% make less than $20,000 per year. 7% of 47%, you MORON.

In addition, only 4.1% of the ENTIRE U.S. POPULATION is on welfare.

Those are COLD HARD FACTS, Agent. Try to wrap your brain around them. I know it will be hard, because it flies in the face of your “50% are working to support the other 50%” conservative propaganda. But it’s the TRUTH nonetheless.

Please answer if you supported Obamacare, the largest redistribution of wealth in history, the Stimulus that wasn’t a Stimulus and created no jobs and all the other Keynsian spending schemes Obama has done the past 6 years. This is about as Socialist as you can get. You voted for him twice which is astounding and you say you are not a Socialist????? You have said you are fiscally conservative and socially liberal. How do you square that philosophy? You do realize you can’t have it both ways, don’t you? We are $17 Trillion in debt with over $7 Trillion in the past 6 years. Progressive Socialism is the reason why this country is in so much trouble economically. Business has not been allowed to flourish due to this government, its overbearing regulation and increasing taxes and of course the looming Obamacare that will be kicking in and dragging the economy with it.

Business is flourishing with record profits and the stock market has gone bananas. Unemployment is at 5.9%.

If Reagan and the Bushes had balanced their budgets and the Democrats had done EXACTLY what they had done, our national debt would be less than 30% GDP instead of over 100%. Read it and weep, you creep.

Agent, you’re a legit moron. Churchill was – – wait for it – – a DEMOCRAT! Who won WWII with – – shocker – – another Democrat (FDR).

And for the record, he’s talking about the danger Russian expansion, not the marxist philosophy of redistribution (which, by the way, we already have to great success in the USA in the form of SS – another program that BENEFITS you at the expense of the young).

Try not being a taker for once, old man.

Stan, you are a plain leftist moron. Are you proud of FDR. During his reign, we had the Great Depression. All he did was institute make work programs that did not get the country out of the Depression. We still had double digit unemployment in 1938 even with his make work WPA program. Instead of incentivizing business to create jobs, he did government jobs which was put on the deficit. The only thing that saved him was the Japanese attacking Pearl Harbor so he could get the men signed up for the military and could get industry going to make planes, tanks and ammunition to fight Japan and Germany.

Agent, youre the one that was alive and voted for FDR. Probably the last thing your generation did correctly. And yes, I am proud of the man. The New Deal arguably changed / created a sustainable middle class that drove American growth for the better part of 60 years. Combine that with the industrial might of a post WWII superpower and its not difficult to see why America prospered the way that she did. Then you took over and literally ran everything into the ground.

Thank god for Obama. Dow doubled, unemployment at all-time lows, the deficit at all time lows, he’s probably the best president we’ve had in over a decade.

PS I saw Oil has been tanking recently. How’s your retirement fund, hopefully not too OPEC dependent. You might be Agent’ing for quite awhile yet, instead of retiring.

Agent– Where did you plagiarize your statements from? They have been circulating for awhile. Perhaps the Koch Brothers published a new book of fairy tales? I don’t have time to address everything that is wrong with them but each of the statements — and underlying premise—is a falsehood

    1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity, by legislating the wealth out of prosperity.
Who talks about legislating people into prosperity? You can legislate people into a living wage which is what poor, middle class and, increasingly, even wealthy Americans support.
Perhaps you think $10 per hour is prosperity.

    2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
Really? The wealthy receive interest on their inheritances and Daddy’s businesses and properties and they benefit from Wall Street crimes without working at all. The middle class and poor have to work for every penny they get.

    3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from someone else.

The government can give to society as a whole and to our children the opportunities, tools and protections to succeed (education, infrastructure, defense, etc.) today by fairly taxing those who have received similar benefits from previous generations’ investments in society.
Want to shrink government? Have WalMart and other big firms pay people a living wage so their employees don’t need go on welfare to feed their kids. Government subsidizes corporations by not taxing them for the resources they use and the pollution they cause and then government still has to help families who don’t get a living wage. Meanwhile, top execs take home more. If anything, government too often takes from the middle class and poor and gives unfair advantages to corporations and the wealthy.

    4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.

Don’t be silly, of course you can. Two is better than one, no? You prefer monopolies? Ever hear of stock splits, spin-offs, divestitures, etc? The rich do it all the time. Ask ITT and The Hartford, eBay and PayPal and dozens more. Ask activist investors like Carl Icahn, John Paulsen, etc. They call it unlocking the value.
The more people there are with funds to participate in the economy, the more growth there will be. That, by the way, is honest capitalism. The wealthy hoard their winnings, taking money out of the economy. They only buy so many fur coats and Jaguars.

    5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them; and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work, because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that is the beginning of the end of any nation.
And if any of that were happening in reality it would be a concern but of course that is not happening. It’s rather hilarious that you posit this as a serious statement. Your statement is a fantasy. Most people want to work and do work, and they take care of their kids and their elderly parents. If half the people get the idea that it is a serious statement, then go back to #3 and investment in education.

Agent, does it bother you to know that your party will never win another national election? Think about that, the demographics alone mean that Hilary is all but assured the White House (personally, I would prefer Elizabeth Warren, but hey, either way, Republitards can take a backseat).

Take solace in knowing youre old and wont have to see the world get better.

Stan – Agent is so hot and bothered all the time about anything and everything, he hardly has time to do bidness. He’s so busy blogging, watching TV, and reading the Washington Times that he whips himself into a frenzy on a regular basis.

Since he’s not real strong on economics, statistics, or demographics he doesn’t realize his party will never win another national election. He hangs on to his hope that Texico will become the new nation’s capital.

He’s actually pretty harmless and really good for a couple of laughs on IJ.

Grow up, kid. The world is a rough and tumble place. I would think that you would know that by now, seeing how you sell insurance, a product predicated on the idea that bad things are going to happen.

PS Agent I see that Texas farmers are only staying afloat because of the Farm Bill. Shocker, more Texas Taking from the NY & CA coffers.
