I challenge everyone to go to your counties website and pull up the grades for your schools. If they still have the grades by race and most do, your will see who’s failing in the schools. We built factories that dumped chemicals & human waste in our rivers, we placed a berm around Lake Okeechobee that’s ruined the everglades, and we’ve committed other environmental disasters. I wonder what we’re doing today that we’ll regret in 50 years. I hate gov’t bureaucracies that are wasteful and ineffective but getting rid of the EPA is not a practical solution.

Jack, I was over there on vacation recently. One of our tours, we drove right by field after field that used to be farmed and it is fallow land now. Pineapple used to be a big industry over there. Sugar Cane refineries are all gathering dust. Most comes from the Philippines now.

Yes KY, the cane is shipped to California to be refined. All the sugar refineries in Hawaii have been shut down and are rusty relics of the past and jobs went away. By the way, Dole does have a cute little tourist store to sell locally grown pineapple and candies, but that is it. Their interests are now in the Philippines where the serious growing and exporting goes on.

I watched my grandfather drive nails and build houses from day light til 5pm and come home and get on his tractor. He NEVER took a hand out. Here’s a tip, if you are growing something and losing money grow something else. Get off the government tit. Just because I decide to sit by the road and sale a cup of starbucks coffee for a dime that it cost me a quarter to make doesn’t mean I should keep making coffee.
