How about a pipe line? Oh wait, the king won’t allow it. Too dangerous?

Good one Me. Yes, I hardly think we would have to worry about derailments with the pipeline that liberals think is so damaging to the environment. Have you heard about any problems with the Alaskan pipeline that has been operating for many years in about the harshest environment possible.

By the way, Uncle Warren Buffet makes $2billion each year for transporting oil on the railways. No wonder the pipeline can’t be built. The President is not going to go against a big supporter and bundler.

Actually, there have been numerous leaks from the Alaskan Pipeline over the years. The number has decreased since increased regulation in the late 80’s or early 90’s requied upgrades and better maintenance. In March of 2006, a certain British oil company had a spill on one of their pipelines in Prudhoe Bay that spilled about 200,000 gallons of oil. They were fined tens of millions of dollars for that one. Several months later, that Britsh oil company had another spill on another line in Alaska. In recent years (most recently in 2014)there have been 2 spills from pipelines crossing the Yellowstone River. These spills contaminated sections of the river. Leaks from pipelines DO occur, Agent. You cannot ignore those facts. They also can leak far more oil than a few rail cars. But, are the risks worse than those of using the railway? I don’t know. Should the history of leaks from pipelines prevent Keystone? I don’t know. But, I do know that your post and the oil industry seem overly positive about the safety of pipelines. That should bother the average citizen. Will rose colored glasses and dollar signs prevent those building and maintaining the pipelines from doing what needs to be done to protect people, property and the environment.
