The sky is always falling isn’t it? We as agents need to sell our value and I’ve been saying that for years. If we continue our race to the bottom (see franchise shops as opposed to local agents), we will eventually pay for it. Google, Walmart, and Overstock aren’t going to be any worse than direct writers. That said, it may in fact be something some day.

the sky is not falling but in an increasingly more expensive world many propects only care about the price; not too worried about great, friendly and thorough local service, reasonable policy coverages or someone who cares. The ones who do care are the ones we fight over.

You make the foolish assumption that you can’t have it both ways. One of the reasons I’m in the independent realm is to have options for my customer, even the price shoppers. As long as I show that I’m worth their premium dollars more than a computer or 800 number, I’m not concerned.

If you only chase after those “high value” clients, you too will feel the pain of a changing market. There’s plenty of business for all channels and competition is a good thing.

Well, the captives are becoming closer to extinction. Independents have a few more years left…..

This sites will only have an impact on consumers that already shop online. The one difference maker I see is Walmart. I remember that when Costco started offering insurance through IDS, we lost a few accounts. Walmart could be the same but on a much larger scale.
