Zep’s one of my favorite bands of all time, but it’s no secret that they “borrowed” from a lot of musicians, especially the old bluesmen.

Check out Piero Umiliani’s “Lady Magnolia” and see if you hear anything familiar…

So, this could be Spirit’s Stairway to Heaven, financially.

They had better settle it soon before all of us, who remember “Stairway’s” original (pun intended) release, reach the top of the stairs.

They copied so many bands. A YouTube search will show many songs that were direct copies. They were already sued for Whole Lotta Love and settled out of court.

Successful artists like Led Zeppelin get shaken down by money grubbing wannabes all the time. It’s sad how a shmuck with a lawyer (or in this case who IS a lawyer) could slander a famous band, but such is the state of affairs in the modern music industry. The judge should toss this case onto the dung heap of other frivolous lawsuits.

Just listened to Taurus, Stairway and Bouree. One thing is very clear and one does not have to listen very hard. Jimmy you are a thief!!! Fess up, come clean. You stole the main theme, the source code for Stairway from the 44 second mark of Taurus. Completely obvious to any idiot with half a brain and the ability to hear. Add in that Randy California was picking this progression from Spirit’s self titled debut album in 1968 while Zep was touring with them as a newbie and the jury comes in with a resounding “GUILTY”. Randy California planted the seed for the song that is the greatest rock ripoff in history. Admit it Jimmy. You cant be so seriously delusional that you believe you came up with that progression. No one else will be.
BTW, it’s called intellectual property theft.

Gold-digging at it’s worst, whi sue now and not 40 years ago? Becuase Randy died and his family wants to try for some of that Stairway money. Anybody with half an ear can tell these sound nothing like each other, especially the whole song in general, not even the section in question is remotely close to STH…Taurus is a hoky, unmemorable piece of garbage, while Stairway is a masterpiece. Taurus does a descending figure and Zep’s is an ascending figure than intersects on 1 note at best, not even in the same key. Not the same at all! You can’t sure for 1 note. Stairway was the best thing that ever happened for Spirit’s meager record sales, they should be grateful for any association with Zep.

In order to hear the similarity, you have to listen to Stairway backwards, while watching The Wizard of Oz.
