So what was Travelers yammering about regarding their declining to bid on Chubb because they has a superior company? Clearly they had no such opportunity to decline. If his comments were taken out of context, what context was there for him to utter those words. Company PR? Trying to get a bump in the market?

CT, didn’t you know that CEO’s can say whatever they want? We call Fishman – Fish Eyes. By the way, why do I keep seeing that Hartford, Ct is losing companies who are seeking lower operating expenses and looking elsewhere to re-locate or moving divisions to other states?

Typical rhetoric from Travelers and Fishman.

Clearly TRV knew Chubb was a target. Saying they did not take the opportunity to approach is not the same as saying they were asked to bid. You can say what you want about Fishman but the success of TRV is undeniable. They grew right through the merger during a tough time. Most companies that merge have a ton of layoffs.

Clearly rhetoric is rhetoric regardless if Travelers knew or not. There was only one viable reason to make the comment. If anything it sounds like sour grapes to me.
