It is a sad situation in PR, but don’t blame the US. The PR Gov’t is corrupt and bankrupt due to poor leadership. They cannot get things done, and they just gave out $113,000,000 in Holiday Bonuses to gov’t workers. Why didn’t they use that money to help themselves?
The US has sent aide money and electrical workers to help get them back on track. They need to help themselves too. Then they need to reinvent the country as they have little industry left, and little farming. They will need to turn themselves into a tourist destination.

I agree with Jack, the government is corrupt and inept. I have been to Puerto Rico and outside of the tourist areas, it is filthy. The residents do not even know how to pick up the garbage on their properties or even the beaches. The island itself is beautiful and they need to capitalize on their assets by opening up more areas for tourism and increasing their agricultural output. They need to become self-sufficient and they have the assets to do that.

Although I feel for all who are impacted by natural disasters, I keep looking for the guarantee in the constitution or bill of rights that no matter what happens the government will be there to help. If Puerto Rico feels that being a territory of the US is such a bad deal maybe they should be taking steps to severe the relationship instead of pitching to become a full state.

As a nation our debt load is over the top and the government simply cannot afford to be the support system for other governments.

It’s the UN — of course the US ( the biggest contributor ) is to blame — unless they can find a way to blame Israel!!

The UN has no business being down there stirring up trouble. I haven’t seen any ships or airplanes from the UN giving aid to Puerto Rico.

Addendum to above post. I haven’t seen the UN at Harvey, Irma or even back to Ike, Katrina.
