The NRA has spent almost zero money compared to Planned Parenthood and labor unions. It’s a fact. Look it up. The NRA is comprised of over 5 million voting members. All the left has are a bunch of made up stats about the evil 1%. The NRA actually has members that support their causes and gets out to vote, so any politician would be well-served to actually do things that people voting for them want.

I personally am for arming those teachers that want to be armed and are trained. I’m also for making bump stocks illegal, and raising the age on some guns to 21. And finally, I am for some sort of mental health evaluation and potentially limiting their right to bear arms if found mentally unstable….that one will be the hardest to do in my opinion but may do the most good in getting weapons out of the hands of the insane.
mikey,
I can support a change to the legal buying age for all firearms to 21 provided the rules are changed regarding purchasing a gun for your own Son or Daughter such that this would not be considered a straw purchase. As to the bump stock issue I have no issue with this other than to point out that there are other ways to bump fire a weapon with a standard stock so question the need.

Your inclusion of raising the age to purchase guns to 21 is a sign you’ve been brainwashed by the liberal media.
Legal purchase of guns by those over 21 won’t prevent guns being stolen by those under 21 to do harm to others, and some may even buy them on the street, illegally. NONE of the recent school mass shootings were carried out by minors. Go check the facts for several prior years to see how far back it was when a minor committed mass murder in a school.
The only Constitutionally valid solution is to repeal “Gun Free Zones” legislation, and put armed guards in ‘soft targets that will no longer be soft after the repeal…. i.e. schools, malls, public buildings, places of religious worship, etc.
That’s because Minors are under 18 and we’re discussing raising the age limit to 21. So, while you may be correct that no one was under 18 – the people who committed some of these mass shooting do fall between 18 and 21. like the parkland and sandy hook shootings.
Maybe, it’s because it’s illegal for minors to purchase guns like that and they haven’t found a way to steal them from the house or buy them on the street illegally!? WHOA… Never thought of that possibility
I’m Hardly brainwashed by the liberal media. I think for myself and look at all sorts of news. Voted Trump btw and still support him. Don’t make up stories in your head about the posters. Also, my post doesn’t only include solutions for school shootings. And don’t use the military argument either…they get trained.
I’m not sure it has been studied…possibly the reason for zero evidence. I did see a stat out there (forgot the source) that most violent crimes with guns are people 18-24. I realize that even if the age were raised to 21 (which it is for handguns), 18 year olds could still acquire a gun in other ways. But I have to imagine raising the age would prevent some deaths. I’m just looking for answers to reduce violence. I personally love guns and responsible use. I own 5 handguns and target shoot quite often. Concealed carry permit holder as well and most any given weekend, I’m carrying (can’t have weapons during the weekday at work:( )
DNC,
I would like to point out that CDC cannot study Gun Control. If this was overturned, maybe more evidence can be found with a better source. I would like to find yours though. Also the NRA was one of the main groups advocating for this.
Exactly. The answer is because it’s a religion to them, and it provides a false sense of safety which conservatives need based on many studies showing they are more scared and anxious and are driven by these fears. As anybody who has seriously studied guns knows, it is more dangerous to have a gun in the household than to have a gun-free household. .

Mikey, I’m surprised IJ hasn’t taken down your posts referencing abortion. They’ve been taking mine down. Hard to understand the public outcry over murdering of 17 teens when millions of babies are aborted annually in America. Where is the outcry over those babies losing their lives for the convenience of their mother? Why are liberal women now carrying around signs declaring their pride in having an abortion? It is an evil, hypocritical society we live in.
Again,
It has been established that it is not life inherently. There is a point in time when the it becomes a life and then it is a slightly different topic. You should not be able to tell a woman as a man what to do with her body. Also it does depend on the situation of the parents as well if they are in a financial situation to support the child so it does not go into foster homes and such. It is not hypocritical in the slightest. The difference is this is topic is about restricting men and women’s rights instead of just limiting women. I see that is the more hypocritical situation. I know this will most likely be a unfavorable opinion, but I just want to point this out
Nothing I could say would change your mind so we’ll disagree on the carnage of babies. Bury your head in the sand and keep considering them as something other than human life so you can sleep at night. Loss of respect of life is sadly a major part in the murders of so many innocent people.

Yep…
Age 21 to own a fire arm, Im not sold on that. They can be drafted at 18 and given one, but cant buy one for private use at home….Presents a conflict in my head.
Bump Stocks can be made off a 3 D Printer. Are we gonna track sales of 3 D Printers now?
A stroll down memory lane… I remember a bully picking on a little kid in High School. The little kid finally had enough and beat the bully with his lunch tray until he was out cold. Took 3 people to get that little kid off the bully. He never got picked on again. I want the good old days back when a lunch tray was used instead of a fire arm. Nothing wrong with settling things on the play ground after school. Once that happened, it was over.
Yea that’s great, except now people who get beat with lunch trays go home and google ways to get revenge and come back in the next day prepared to kill the other student. Times have changed. Looking back doesn’t help. Come up with better and more creative solutions on how to solve today’s issues, not just how they used to be solved.
Today has tons of issues, and many of them stem from things that we just don’t understand because we weren’t living in the same world as kids today.
Attention “young adults” across this country: Again promises made are not going to be kept; as evident from Trump pulling back on raising the age for the purchase of guns and other gun safety recommendations…….Remember he had dinner with the heads of the NRA a few nights ago? What did the NRA promise him for the financing of the forthcoming 2018 and his possible 2020 re-election?
Time to get out there, register to vote and vote him and other Republican legislators out of office….Time for the people to get what they need or are promised. NOT empty promises or what Trump’s pocketbook or that of is merry band of Republican thieves and “do nothing” legislators are willing to lie, cheap, and steal for. Time for a change. YOU are our future. You can and will make the difference and changes needed to protect this country and its people.
The NRA (Who I happily support, and who has gained 500,000 new members since Feb 14th) spent 2 million in lobbying last year. Pfizer spent 10 million. The NRA doesn’t own anyone. Big Pharma does
David,
I don’t think the “whataboutism” argument applies here. Both the NRA and Big Pharma own candidates. And, those lobbies are not alone. We should have our politicians wear patches of all the pockets they are in, like NASCAR. Then, we’ll know exactly who we are dealing with come election time.
Sure glad our great President vowed not to take lobbyist money when he ran for President. He is beholden to no one. I agree that politicians who do take lobbyist money are going to vote accordingly and it is sad.
Agent,
What this president vows to do and actually does are polar opposites. Just ask Melania how seriously Donnie takes vows.

When I was in High School 30 years ago, I knew a few of my teachers that kept handguns in their desk.
At the time, you could not only buy rifles at 18, but you could also buy pistols (I bought my first when I was 19)
You could own them at much younger.
Many students in my High School drove to school in pick up trucks with rifles in the back window. These were 16 & 17 yr old kids.
Everyone was safe, and the country had far fewer mass shootings at the time
And 30 years ago the same 18 year old could buy a case of beer, drink it, and drive on home. Times have changed. Things aren’t the same as they were 30 years ago. Using an argument about how things were in the past does nothing to help solve any of the problems of today.
40 years ago, out-of-wedlock births were a fraction of what they are today, single parent homes were a small minority, violent video games and movies were non-existent, social isolation wasn’t even a concept, and psychotropic drugs were very, very rare.
And mass shootings were also very rare (while gun ownership was higher than it is today).
So, let’s not look at the past to learn anything . . . it might distract us from the blind focus on nothing but guns.
(FBI Statistics on murders with semi-automatic rifles: about 18 per year. With handguns: over 6,000.)
“40 years ago, out-of-wedlock births were a fraction of what they are today, single parent homes were a small minority, violent video games and movies were non-existent, social isolation wasn’t even a concept, and psychotropic drugs were very, very rare.
And mass shootings were also very rare (while gun ownership was higher than it is today).”
And then, Ronnie Raygun happened and flipped the script on America.
Oh, and psychotropic drugs were not rare. Not even in the slightest. LSD was legal until 1968 and was widely used recreationally, spiritually, as psychological therapy, and in our military. And, that’s just one example. Many psychotropic drugs have been practiced in all societies for centuries. We have a Craig in Yogi’s clothing, here.
I can’t figure out if you are ignorant or just dishonest. Both?
Blaming on person, any President, for society’s descent into cultural problems is what a third grader would do.
The use of psychotropic drugs has exploded in the US while Europe is extremely skeptical of their use and as a result, their per capita use of psychotropics is far, far lower than ours. They think our “pop a pill” mentality is ridiculous.
But hey, when you are trying to teach a pig to sing . . .

This is what Craig replied to. So we aren’t talking about CULTURAL problems in this are we? We are talking about specific areas they wanted Trump to change.
Craig responded:
“Right! Obama had 8 years and look at how much HE accomplished on gun control/safety/mental health . .”
So this is literal, not cultural. In this scenario he’s basically saying where are the bills then, regarding gun control which have stopped murders?
He did not contradict himself.
Confused you’re an idiot. A total fool, or a sleaze ball, which is it? I suspect the latter which is why I’ve stopped responding to you, and rather I just expose you for the idiotic immoral brat you are. And you think this was a zinger? Geez kid. All I did was say good job to Captain for using people’s own words (verbatim) against themselves when they post contradicting statements. Didn’t realize that simply acknowledging what Captain is doing makes me an immoral idiotic sleaze ball brat.
Wonder what kind of vitriol you had stored up for me if I actually posted something of substance.
So, let’s see. This entire thread started with some dope stating:
“Looks like Donnie Doughboy is afraid of the NRA after all.”
Hmmm . . . “blaming one person . . .”
That part of the conversation had 8 comments — including yours and mine right now, it’s up to 10 out of 54. 5.4% of the posts in this thread built off that comment, the rest did not. That is hardly a majority, let alone “this entire thread”, but nice try.
I know you are fairly new to IJ, but the administrators would kindly ask you do not personally insult other posters by name-callin…Oh, wait, the administrators would kindly ask all but you, Yogi, and Agent not personally insult other posters by name-calling.

Was going to check out a classic suspense movie tonight. Anyone have any suggestions? I was thinking, “Silence of The Lamb”.
While trying to teach a fish to do math is pointless . . .
Gun control legislation is what politicians can do. It is not a cultural problem, it is quite specific, and therefore can be addressed by politicians (except Obama, I mean).
Out-of-wedlock births are a cultural problem. Politicians can’t make a law banning such. Neither can they ban single parent families, the use of all psychotropic drugs, or social isolation.
I know this is getting pretty heady for you, but give thinking a try . . .
President Obama tried, he ran into a treasonous, obstructionist, NRA bought-and-paid-for Republican congress. One who touted he was going to go door-to-door and take all the guns. One who said he was just trying to use a tragedy in order to do so. They fought him tooth and nail. The reason why it didn’t get done during his administration has EVERYTHING to do with the right side of the aisle. Everyone else was ready to act. And fear this, the kids who all walked out of their schools today know that. They are your future voters.
Out-of-wedlock births and single parent homes are Reagan’s construction. Perhaps you didn’t live during the 80”s. People were all coked up (cocaine at an all time high) and those who weren’t being trickled down upon were escaping through that and other psychotropic means. They were also leaving their spouses and families behind. Divorce rates increased. And with it, so did social isolation.
I know this is all too much honesty for you, so I’ll leave you to your Sean Hannity now. I’m guessing his advertisers have a solution to get some hope back in that rope.
Fortunately, Cap’n, we are going to see a Blue Wave like one that hasn’t happened in generations. With any luck, we will get our very own obstructionist Democratic congress who will prevent further damage to our economy and ecological system until we can get a Democrat in office who will restore our dignity on the world stage.
Unless you think lying to our allies and praising our enemies is actually a helpful thing, of course. :P

I am a property guy, but remember the great school liability insurance crisis of the 1980s and beyond. Have any insurance companies responded underwritingly to teachers, administrators, janitors, whever, carrying loaded guns to school? What will this do to the GL market?
Schools who are going to arm their employees better alert their carrier first. Some are likely to drop these schools midterm due to material changes to the risks accepted. And, they’ll want to start early on the quoting process because this is going to impact school budgets when they see their new insurance rates.
not sure about arming teachers…I had some genuine psychopaths as teachers when I went to school and have no doubt they would’ve gleefully popped off a couple of caps had they ever had the chance. One of them could knock out a fly at 50 yards with an eraser.
“The White House is forging ahead with a plan to give firearms training to teachers while pulling back from moves opposed by gun lobbyists…”
Looks like Donnie Doughboy is afraid of the NRA after all.
Nope. Fear of lobbyists is not the reason. Guess again. And, don’t forget to down vote this post.

@ Perplexed,
Nothing you could say could change their mind because to do that you would have to provide a factual based & logical argument. I doubt you have the capacity
Evil to you, for whatever religious reason. many others would disagree
Where is the evidence showing that raising the age to 21 wouldn’t result in a reduction in crime?
“Cyber-bullying is a problem, including leading to suicide. Should we raise the age to 21 to make posts on Facebook and other social media sites?”
I did speak in past tense. Glory Days – we all have them.
Nancy’s patches: Teachers Unions, Lawyers, La Raza, Greenies, Potheads, Big Health Insurers who love Obamacare, SEIU, Open Border fans, Big Corporations who love costly regulations that keep out smaller competitors, her husband’s Business who received big Obamacare money, Enemies of Free Speech, enemies of the second amendment, millions of recipients of big government dollars . . .
Donnie Doughboy’s – white supremacists, the incest-curious, child molesters, David Duke, women beaters – have I said enough yet?
Right! Obama had 8 years and look at how much HE accomplished on gun control/safety/mental health . . .
Exactly – Republican obstructionism. Here’s what President Obama wanted:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6imFvSua3Kg
So, not what Sean Hannity and 45 lie about, but what President Obama actually said and attempted to have accomplished.
Happy once again to help!
And I want a Unicorn.
But I won’t get one either, just like Mr. Indpendent’s President Dreamer . . .
Presidents are judged on what they accomplished. And Obama accomplished nothing.
Craig Cornell says:

But hey, when you are trying to teach a pig to sing . . .

HA HA HA! These never get old Captain — great work! :)
it is truly humbling how many of those IJ comments you have saved for such purposes…I’m glad they are being put to such good use.
End the hypocrisy ON ALL SIDES. Stop the political rhetoric, name-calling, etc.
Alright, so here we go.
I found the original post.
“Attention “young adults” across this country: Again promises made are not going to be kept; as evident from Trump pulling back on raising the age for the purchase of guns and other gun safety recommendations…….Remember he had dinner with the heads of the NRA a few nights ago?
I thought higher of you in the past, after you stepped back in a gun argument about a year ago.
Bob–all I did was say I appreciate it when Planet calls out others on their hypocrisy by re-posting their own words. I guess that makes me a moron.
Hi Shotgun Argument Bob!
“Confused you’re an idiot. A total fool, or a sleaze ball, which is it? …I just expose you for the idiotic immoral brat you are.”
Thanks for all those insults. You’re really doing a great job fostering intelligent and rational arguments supported by facts. Keep up the great work! (end sarcasm)
Longer then that.
So, let’s see. This entire thread started with some dope stating:
“Looks like Donnie Doughboy is afraid of the NRA after all.”
Hmmm . . . “blaming one person . . .”
Hilarious. Making a mess and laying in it.
That part of the conversation had 8 comments — including yours and mine right now, it’s up to 10 out of 54. 5.4% of the posts in this thread built off that comment, the rest did not. That is hardly a majority, let alone “this entire thread”, but nice try.
Reading for Comprehension: “this entire thread STARTED . . .”
Blaming Trump and excusing Obama for the exact same thing – failure to enact gun control legislation – is laughably obvious hypocrisy.
Blaming Reagan for out-of wedlock births, expanded use of psychotropic drugs, single parent households and violent video games is, well, insane.
I know you are fairly new to IJ, but the administrators would kindly ask you do not personally insult other posters by name-callin…Oh, wait, the administrators would kindly ask all but you, Yogi, and Agent not personally insult other posters by name-calling.

Oh, and by the way Craig, you were the one who made the whole, “blame one person” comment and then, or actually before, sprinkled your hypocrisy all over it. Check out the thread while my DJ revolves it!
Oh, I see the light now.
You are an “independent” who blames everything on Trump and Reagan. (Poor Barry was a victim, the highest honor for liberals.)
(Daddy issues? The usual liberal problem when irrational thinking sets in.)
This coming from a guy who constantly brings up
“daddy issues” and can’t help but bring up SPHs in every topic about gun massacres.
You love the topic so much, you helped your wife become a single parent. What a guy!
Not only racist and ignorant about every topic, but into roleplaying, too. Kinky!
I am a property guy, but remember the great school liability insurance crisis of the 1980s and beyond. Have any insurance companies responded underwritingly to teachers, administrators, janitors, whever, carrying loaded guns to school? What will this do to the GL market?
Raise Rates unless the Schools Subs them out and out the liability on someone else.
Lloyds
Schools who are going to arm their employees better alert their carrier first. Some are likely to drop these schools midterm due to material changes to the risks accepted. And, they’ll want to start early on the quoting process because this is going to impact school budgets when they see their new insurance rates.
Thank you to you 3 for being the only ones to post an insurance related post! Bravo!
not sure about arming teachers…I had some genuine psychopaths as teachers when I went to school and have no doubt they would’ve gleefully popped off a couple of caps had they ever had the chance. One of them could knock out a fly at 50 yards with an eraser.
