The freedom to go into my garage, get in my car, and go where I want, when I want is worth far more then any savings you mention.
Some of us refuse to give up freedom for lower costs.
A safe, driver-less car is a misnomer. Aside from having fail-proof technology, which is another misnomer, you have the driving environment (urban v rural), conditions (day v night), weather, and most importantly, other drivers to consider.
Adding the driverless factor takes away the mindful aspect (regardless of the fact that technology removes the risk of human error): Reports from NYC show people who would’ve used mass transit are instead using Uber & Lyft, putting more cars on the road!! So much for “ridesharing.” The taxis, TLCs and livery drivers are crying about the additional transportation services which are reducing their income, as well. Still, the overwhelmed, underperforming MTA, despite the decline in passengers, cannot keep up; and there is more pollution as a result.
In all the times I took an Uber, I wasn’t sharing a ride with either the driver or another passenger; the driver was on the road specifically to drive passengers, not driving anyone “by the way” as he/she was going from point A to point B.
Good luck ride sharers in a driverless car. All that has to happen is one sensor failing and you are toast.
I’m not ready to give up driving my own car. Who really lives like that?

Good luck drivers in an un-automated car. All that has to happen is one sense failing and you are toast.

I’d rather control my own destiny.
integrity, there is always someone on this blog with an “Agenda”, right.? By the way, agendas with the wrong ideas are failing in this country.
