This is another study that points to the need for stronger laws regarding cellphone use in cars, and technology to prevent such dangerous activities. Higher insurance rates for violations of currently weak distracted driving laws are not enough to enforce proper, safe behavior. Distracted or drugged driving of a multi-ton vehicle can injure or kill drivers, passengers, other drivers, and pedestrians. Liberals say guns are the greatest danger to US citizens while ignoring the tens of thousands of traffic deaths of drivers, passengers, and pedestrians.

Nobody is ignoring traffic deaths — heck, that’s one reason there’s been a push towards automated vehicles (yes, there’s still a LOT of work to do there, but the end result is a reduction in accidents and injuries).

Also, there are tons of auto laws on the books — you can’t get a license without passing two tests, you can’t own a car without having insurance to protect others from your actions (NH being the only exception), forcing people to register their cars so we know which cars are owned by which folks, etc.

When someone can’t pass a licensing test, they don’t get to legally drive a car until they pass said test.

When someone can’t pass a firearms test, they can’t own a gun until they pass said test. Ha ha ha … just kidding, there is no required firearms test.

So Rosenblatt, how are you going to monitor several million illegal aliens driving autos? No licenso, no problemo, no insurance.

When will you big government liberals understand this concept: laws and increased punishments do not change behavior, consequences from accidents might.

People intrinsically believe they either can handle this or will not get caught. That is why there are still murders, illegal drugs, theft, speeding, drunk driving, etc.

To clarify, I do not think actions like these that directly result in the harm of others should go unpunished.

I find it interesting that as a Texican, Agent doesn’t know (or pretends not to know) how to say “license” in Spanish (“licencia”) . As far as his equating no valid U.S. license with no insurance, that’s either feigned ignorance or fake news, as several insurance carriers writing in Tejas will gladly issue a private passenger auto insurance policy to a driver with no US license at a hefty surcharge. Why? Because these policies generally have good retention and experience.

If I may be so bold, 50% of parents admit they talk on the cell phone while their kids are on the phone…and the other 50% are lying.

How do you define “parent”? It is all on spectrum. There are more than 2 types of parents.
Some parents look like “dads” and some like “moms”. But there are many variations or combinations of the two. There are “doms” and “dams”, “mads” and “mods”.

It is all so difficult to just blame “parents”.
