Here are the 3 words that are crucial to trying to understand the verdict; “a California jury”. Apparently, either the jury doesn’t understand the term ‘scientific studies’, or they weren’t allowed to hear the defense make their plea in that regard.
Looks like there have been a number of lawsuits stacked against them. This article seems to argue that this might put some pressure on them to settle but I have a feeling this is similar to the big fight against tobacco years ago. When you have that much money you keep fighting. It’s going to be a long battle.
Another sterling decision by the loonies who live in the Pity by the Bay. Wanna prove the earth is flat? Get it to any court in the Bay area and they will find for the plaintiff
Ignorance causes people to assume they jury didn’t hear both sides. This has been ongoing for years. Monsanto needs stopped. Buy local….and buy organic!
Actually, ignorance is the jury hearing the FACTS and choosing to ignore them because they want to ‘punish’ the big, evil corporation. Trial lawyers appeal to jurors emotions and can then count on them ignoring facts, such as ‘no scientific link to Round-up and cancer’.
So there is no connection between the two………..who cares.
Libertarian Agent,
Have you ever seen “Food, Inc.”? Completely sinister what Monsanto is doing to the farming community. We buy local and we buy organic as much as possible. Just know that “organic” and “non-GMO” are definitions that change annually in the US. Do your homework before you get your wallet out.
There is an interesting parallel between this verdict and the verdicts returned so far against Johnson and Johnson having successfully advocated that baby powder causes cancer. Like it or not, under our legal system it is the jury alone who is responsible for determining the credibility of the evidence presented. Both Bayer and Johnson and Johnson will no doubt get to defend thousands of similar lawsuits in the future. Both will no doubt get some defendent’s verdicts, but will also suffer some huge verdicts such as this one. What is really unbelievable is that a company such as Bayer would purchase Monsanto knowing the liability risks they presented. This headache is no doubt beyond the remedy of Bayer aspirin.
