The author forget to mention politically based religious neutrality and Global Warming as two other reasons for fewer Christmas / Year End / New Year holiday parties at offices. {sarcasm} Or, maybe, the author has common sense?

Why spoil the holiday season at places of work by cancelling holiday parties due to concerns over misbehavior of a few workers?! If HR and senior management were doing their jobs effectively, they’d have purged any misbehaving employees, and would be establishing rules of behavior at the parties that prevent harassment, etc.
No alcohol, or one drink limits, is another commonly used risk management approach (currently used to prevent DUI incidents that create liability for the company) that will reward, rather than punish (due to prior bad acts of a few), the well behaved, loyal employees.
I agree. It’s not celebrating the holidays that’s the problem; its the alcohol consumption that usually causes the vast number of issues. I know people who have lost jobs due to this; lowered inhibitions, you say and do things you know you shouldn’t do when you are sober. Our company has a holiday party with no alcohol. If we want to gather outside the premises to drink; its not company sanctioned.
While the media refuse to report on it, conservatives are routinely assaulted now. Not just Senators and members of Congress but conservative media figures. Rand Paul went to the hospital with broken ribs. Steve Scalise was nearly killed. Imagine if that were Diane Feinstein and Nancy Pelosi.
The assault on Tucker Carlson’s house this week got a lot of attention. Not so much the assaults on other Fox News anchors and contributors that have been going on for some time.
On a much less serious note, I have been called a racist 7 times since Trump was elected and if you knew me you would know how ridiculous that is. Many of my conservative friends have been called the same; I joke when I see them now by saying “Hey, racist.” They all laugh; they get it. It is just out of control, the vitriol (and it clouds real racism).
It’s getting ugly, folks. Need to take a stand. If you think this stuff won’t spread and get worse and start to impact people on the left, think again.
The voice of reason! Office party is just a night I have to spend at work. Is it nice, do they do good things, absolutely, but I would rather be at home with my family than go to the office party 100/100 times.
I don’t need to hire a lawyer; I gladly accept the opportunity to mingle with my co-workers. Others, like “???”, might need to hire a lawyer if their company enforced compliance. I’m not aware of any such companies.

It’s the only time of year I ‘let my hair down’ at a company function, and I’m bald!
It’s never a good idea to consume alcohol around coworkers. First thing you know, you’re knocking back a few Hennigans and then having sex with the cleaning lady. Not that there is anything wrong with that.
Was that wrong? Should I not have done that? I tell you, I gotta plead ignorance on this thing, because if anyone had said anything to me at all when I first started here that that sort of thing is frowned upon…you know, ’cause I’ve worked in a lot of offices, and I tell you, people do that all the time.
Another place with similar shocking results are off campus, company sponsored training programs, esp if it brings strangers together — way worse behavior than company holiday parties because the parties usually have most or all of the management present, whereas management’s presence is usually limited at trainings
Holiday parties have become a nightmare for organizations for many reasons, but most of them could be handled by communicated expectations and disciplinary actions as PolarBeaRepeal asserts. Yet, what I see happening is death of the holiday party due to diversity. The organization cant possibly please everyone and someone is gonna be offended, and quite possibly sue over the perceived offense.

Personally, I’m in favor of ANY excuse to cancel the company holiday party.

Who is forcing you to attend? If any such policy is set in writing, or verbally to multiple employees at your company, call your lawyer.
it’s not mandatory, just “highly encouraged”. You get “volun-told” to attend.
A lot of people have to go. If you had worked in modern times at an actual workplace you would know this.
