it goes back to the “Us vs them” mentality of so many posters, where they downvote the messenger instead of the actual message. I don’t agree with 75% of Agent’s political beliefs but I’ve always respected his insurance knowledge, and have upvoted him plenty of times.
We gotta stop it, folks. We’re all adults here and damn lucky to be employed in this great industry. Maybe we could start acting like it?
While I don’t agree with Agent’s statement (see below), I don’t vote on this site either up or down. That said, I totally agree the voting is more often than not based on the name of the poster and not the content.
Agent, I don’t know anyone here personally so I don’t know if they are jerks or not, but I would say there are certainly a few I know of who peddle misinformation and character attacks on a daily basis. I’ll keep them in my prayers.
spoken as their king? Your last several posts have all insulted vapers, leftists and anyone else who disagrees with you. You are a part of the problem here, Agent.
Agent,
I know you took a hiatus and came back with a new name, so I did want to take the time to let you know what Andrew has advised since you’ve been gone:

Here it is one more more time for y’all. Comments, no matter how otherwise valid, will be deleted if they contain personal insults and/or are off-topic. These insults might include liar, Basement Boy, puffy chested (whatever that is), Kangaroo, idiot, pervert, slow learner, Lefty, crazy, mentally ill, fool, pathetic, old man, etc.

You may want to abstain from referring to Jon as “little” or “lefty” as those are considered personal insults. I know you don’t like having your content deleted, so just a head’s up. Happy to help!
This was a horrible tragedy and hopefully Telsa will improve their software so things like this don’t happen again.
To those who don’t want to see this technology on the road until it’s “proven to be safe”, I would like to remind you there have been plenty of other advances in vehicles over the years that were refined over the years to go from “kind of safe” or “definitely not safe” to “actually safe.”
plate glass windshields
original (non 3 point) seat belts
padding on the interior
anti-lock breaks
single side-view mirror
The list goes on. My point is simple … while something may not be “proven to be safe”, it’s probably still a heck of lot better than not having that option in the first place.
There is still much work to be done to improve safety of self-driving cars, but banning them until they’re proven to be safe really isn’t the answer. Should we ban teenage drivers until they’re proven to be safe? Drivers over 75? I haven’t seen the numbers but willing to bet that self-driving cars have fewer accidents/mile than either of those groups.
Rosenblatt – You are completely right in the comment that many safety features were and still are being improved upon. Look at the Child Safety Seat.
The difference is that these items were for self-protection.
Ultimately a self-driving vehicle will be for self-protection as well as for the protection of the public. However, until is it is actually perfected, it should be banned, or restricted in the areas in which it can be used.
I respect your opinion and appreciate the topical response. but I don’t really agree with that Jim, since I’d put “blind spot warning” and “lane change assist” and “forward accident collision avoidance” all in the self-protection category, and all of those are stepping stones to ultimately achieving Level 5 autonomous driving.
You’ve stated multiple times on this board that you believe bots are responsible for the large number of downvotes your posts get. If that’s your understanding of technology, why should any of us trust your opinion on any form of technology whatsoever?

Typical Tech people rolling crap out that isnt ready to be rolled out. Something as obvious as a jay walker not accounted for cause they cant think out side their cubicle.
This is why we need to ban self driving cars until they are proven to be safe.
I’m trying to figure out why you were down voted on this remark

Perplexed, several real jerks permeate this blog.

Hi Agent!
Agent, what other technology have we banned until we have proven it is safe? Define “safe”.
This was a horrible tragedy and hopefully Telsa will improve their software so things like this don’t happen again.

Jim Backus is correct in regard to his remark about vehicle self-preservation.
Few of us know the inner details of the programming of AI on AVs, so we can only assume what we see in practice, and it ain’t good so far.
