“Airlines protested, arguing they could not provide such information, especially from passengers booking tickets through third-party websites.”

I’ve flown internationally many times. Each time the airline hands out Customs cards to the passengers they must fill out and hand in before entering the new country.

Why can’t that be done for contact tracing? Why can’t the airlines hand out contact tracing cards and require the passengers fill them out, regardless of how they bought their tickets?

answer: Litigation. The airlines are concerned that if a passenger reports contact with a third party, and that third party sues the airline alleging the airline falsely spread information about that person . . . remember, you don’t have to be truly damaged. You just allege you are damaged and the fear of defense costs will cause the airline (or restaurant or hospital or school . . .) to settle to avoid costs.

How is ANY that different than the risks of providing 3rd party info on a Customs Form if you’re staying at someone’s house and not a hotel in a foreign country?

You and I both know why. People in foreign countries don’t sue in the USA. Or I should say, people in foreign countries aren’t chased by American lawyers to generate legal shake downs of American corporations in American courts.

People entering the USA from a foreign country, even USA citizens, are required to fill out a Customs Card with this information on it too. I should’ve been more specific with my last question. Let me rephrase:

If a USA citizen fills out a Customs Card with 3rd party info on it when landing at JFK from Taiwan, how is that any different than a USA citizen filling out a Contract Tracing card with 3rd party info on it when they land at JFK from BOS?
