Transparent pricing makes sense. Many hospitals have monopolies or oligopolies in the areas they serve. The show “60 Minutes” showed how Sutter Health in the Sacramento area dominates the region and can charge higher prices for services than many hospitals in higher cost areas such as New York and Los Angeles.
Does it make sense that most states regulate pricing of P&C Insurers where the market is extremely competitive with many markets and yet allow the medical industry where little competition exists, to price their services with no requirements to even inform consumers of the cost?
