This reversal was wrong. West was not a natural disaster. I hope FEMA goes back against the fertilizer plant owner to recoup every dollar of money spent on his man-made disaster.

This crossed bi-partisan lines for pandering. The president approving FEMA funding and Rick Perry slobbering all over it. This is NOT a natural disaster. It is terribly unfortunate that the citizens of West are w/o schools and other facilities, but this is the fault of private industry, particularly one owner. Isn’t FEMA underfunded now? Louisiana representatives are bit$ching about rate increases for NFIP – again, backed up by federal (taxpayer) dollars. Cuomo and Christie had tantrums and ended up with taxpayer (FEMA) $$, some of which will pay a BONUS to homeowners who agree to sell coastal property. Does gov’t functioning as a reinsurer for terrorism insurance stand a chance? Who’s funding FEMA AND the Treasury department acting as a reinsurer using taxpayer dollars. Where will the money come from?

This reversal isn’t the right call. This falls on the fert plant owner. There’s nothing natural about this disaster. Maybe Mr. Perry can remember these 3 things – “Thank you, President!”

Texas doesn’t require a fertilizer plant to carry liability insurance and now they want the feds to bail them out? (This plant only had a $1 million policy, which is a pittance compared to the actual risk to which they were exposed.) Now that’s rich coming from a state that routinely decries government intervention. These people deserve help, but it seems really unfair that the taxpayers are on the line for this gross corporate negligence.

I’m a bit confused. I know the plant owner was significantly underinsured and there is no way to collect from them. But wouldn’t rebuilding the rest of the town fall back on the insurance for the individual property owners? Is the whole town uninsured?

It does seem unusually quiet here. Wonder what Rick Perry thinks of this government “interference” in a red state – ?

    Agent? FFA?

Leave it to Obama do for Americans what the state of Texas won’t do for it’s own residents.
