With just five days remaining until liability insurance coverage for the Sorrento Police Department ends, officials in the Louisiana town are quickly running out of options to continue police protection for residents.
The Advocate reports options presented to council members at a special Town Council meeting Wednesday were to accept the lone insurance company willing to cover the Police Department or to enter into a six-week contract with the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Town officials must hold another special meeting before the Tuesday deadline to vote on the new insurance provider and to amend the town budget if that is the direction council members want to go, Anny said.
In a 5-0 vote, council members also unanimously voted to authorize the mayor to discuss police protection with the sheriff’s office.
