    They should do the same in Texas! Along with tow truck drivers. it is ridiculous what is allowed in Texas for either business.

    I would also like to see regulators crack down a bit on APD insurers who try and steer their insureds to the at fault party’s liability carrier. While this may be wise, to avoid a claim and at least an up front deductible, it is the insured’s right to decide 1st vs. 3rd party. More than a few times I have found that adjusters representing the big auto carriers have tried to push a claim away from 1st party APD coverage, telling the insured they “need to file the claim” with the liability carrier. Seems like a combination of weak training and perhaps practices that are less than the “utmost good faith” expectations of an insurance contract. My opinions and experiences, yours may differ.

    Thanks for sharing this advice! I agree that it is important to only go to an auto body shop that you think is reputable, and that will take good care of your car. It isn’t worth it to just go with the shop that your insurance tells you to. At the very least, you should do some research to make sure that the auto body shop you choose has a good reputation.
