4.5 Earthquake Hits Northern Oklahoma

A 4.5 magnitude earthquake struck northern Oklahoma at 11:10 a.m. CST Jan. 31 about seven kilometers northwest of Medford, the United States Geological Survey confirmed.

A USGS Community Internet Intensity Map reported that people across Oklahoma and southern Kansas experienced light to moderate shaking. The earthquake was felt in Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Norman and Muskogee among other locations in Oklahoma.

Wichita, Kansas felt light shaking, according to the USGS.

A 2016 reported from the Oklahoma Insurance Department found that 119 companies write earthquake insurance in the state, but four insurers hold more than half of the market.
