What is the average age of the remaining open claims? When was each reported (any delayed “snowbird claims”?)? Has the carrier made offers on any of these open claims? Has the insured failed to respond to an offer on any of them? How many include “partial pays” where the carrier continues to pay out ALE while the homeowner continues to rebuild his dwelling?
None of these facts were in the article, however I assume you must have access to the information since you are able to state that it borders on bad faith.
Has Mr. Gilmer received any compensation, my guess would be yes but he is obviously not happy with it. The insurance company cannot be the scape goat due to price fluctuations, gouging and inability of the field adjuster to get someone to agree to a repair price. Bad faith? Not any where near…..
I was informed today that my claim is being denied. Vanguard is sending an explanation letter which I can’t wait to read. But I don’t know how you can totally deny the claim when the condo was destroyed.
It makes me sick, due to we lost our home and vanguard thinks they have the right to hold our money. What about all the years of payments made to them? If you miss one payment there out to dismiss you from the company.
This company is a outrage. My sister\’s home fell apart. It is unlivable. They have been put off. They need money right now to cover shelter expence. She has to make her mortgage payment and cannot pay out of pocket for the apartment they were forced to live in. Her insurance should be covering that but is dragging their feet while she is bein called at work and threatened with expulsion . Something is very wrong!
If Vanguard Fire & Casualty is an insurance company, then I am a millionaire. I got a true understanding that they are in the business of making money, not helping people in need. We are still fighting with them over problems from Frances and Jeanne. Unfortunaley, we have another claim thanks to Wilma. They certainly didn\’t seem to mind getting my money when I paid them, to bad they aren\’t there when it comes time for them to pay.

I AM BRACING MYSELF FOR A STRONG HURRICANE SEASON WITH LEAKS IN 9 ROOMS OF MY HOME. VANGUARD IN THE INTERIM IS SENDING INSPECTORS, REINSPECTORS AND ENGINEERS TO ASSESS THE DAMAGE (INITIALLY TOLD COSMETIC TILE LOSS ONLY). WE NEED REPRESENTATION OF OUR CONCERNS AND OF THE PRECARIOUS POSITION VANGUARD HAS PLACED US IN…. BY THE GOVERNOR, JEB BUSH AND COMMISSIONER OF INSURANCE OR THEY CAN DECLARE A STATE OF EMERGENCY BEFORE THE NEXT HURRICANE HITS.
It’s been over 5 months and almost 6. It should not take this long for any carrier to appraise and conclude their claims. This borders on bad faith.

That is actually not a bad ratio. Many policyholders do not like the estimate and refuse to settle. Bad faith? You must live in fantasy land.

Does anyone have positive comments to quote. I am getting worried as I have Vanguard, but have never had a claim.

As of 01/2007 Vanguard Fire and Casualty has been placed in receivership by the Florida Courts. They may go bankrupt.
