so what is the difference in having it on w/a truck vs a car? it should not matter! i tell you what, if you get into an accident w/me and you don’t have it on. you bet i will not pay for any medical bills because you decided not to wear the belt. you could have prevented the injuries from being serious.

Elsewhere in Virginia Governor Tim Kane pushes Helmet law for all vehicles. Research has shown that if everyone wore helmets, thousands of deaths and injuries would be avoided. Seat belts and air bags are just not effective without helmets.

Pick-up truck drivers are a different breed and I’m glad they aren’t required to wear seat belts. I agree completely with Woodchuck about denying compensation for medical and other expenses if they are injured due to failure to protect themselves. Beyond that, they deserve to run the risk of injury or death. That will “thin the herd”. We need to stop being concerned about idiots who don’t care about themselves.

well, i like your idea on the helmets but then again, with our legislative body, you might find them trying to put seatbelts on motorcycles. afterall, are they not a different breed? or have a manufacturer come up with a plan to create an airbag that would encase the driver upon impact to protect him… (sounds like a speed racer manuever)…

It is unbelieveable in this day and age something like this cannot be approved.

One question: Was this for the adults sitting in the cab or in the bed?

Come on Georgia, join the 21st century.

I’d have the Darwinian outlook too, except that often the goobers don’t kill themselves outright and the taxpayers end up footing the bill for their hospital stay and continuing care.

after spending several years in GA I can testify to the backwards thinking which still pervades that fine state. This issue re-affirms my opinion LOLOL

I have received many violations for not wearing a seat belt. if i sound like i’m proud of that fact it’s because i am. who the hell has the right to tell me i have to wear a seat belt? i’m over the age of 18. i pay for insurance. it’s b.s. to charge someone a fine for not “caring about themselves” as some have put it. now, if someone can show some statistics about people flying through the windshield and killing someone in the opp. car, then i might think about changing my opinion.

ok, i think both of you guys don’t get it! seatbelt can save lives and cause you less injuries. because it does that, insurance rates can go lower, because they don’t have to payout more for medical bills. now, remember, if your at-fault, in most cases your going to have to have your own health coverage to take care of your medical bills. if the other party is at-fault, their insurance obviously will. many of you don’t realize, that in europe, if you have the opportunity to make it safer for you as in wearing a seatbelt, you will get less insurance money from the other party when at-fault because you could have lessened the medical. remember too, that if you have others in your car, are you going to allow them to ride w/o a seatbelt? remember, they too can sue you for their injuries. you set an example as a driver, so why not?!

trucks and cars ought to have a device that keeps them from starting until the belt are connected. I has a pontiac and it would NOT start unless the seat belt was on. and if you un done it, bells wuold go off.
