My company was taken to the cleaners by a Charleston attorney that we hired. We sued a Charleston-based company for failure to pay under contract.
The defendant attorney defaulted and was very late in filing a response to the lawsuit. Instead of filing a motion for default, our genius attorney called the defense attorney to let him know that he needed to file a response. He tried to say – we just do not file motions for default against other Charleston attorneys.
What did our company end up with – seven cents on the dollar. What did the Charleston attorney end up with – 70% of the settlement. Our company was going to sue our illustrious Charleston attorney, but there was not enough $ involved.
This case is not that surprising. They will probably settle for $750,000 or less.
this is my problem w/most of the attorneys… they take more than the client itself… even more so when it comes to class action lawsuits… and you wonder why the attorneys live in multi-million dollar homes and fancy cars! why they get wealthy and then become politicians to help them even keep more money in their own pocket and cost the middle income and lower income to pay more in taxes because they have a way to put money into a tax deferred or can make that money untaxable… let’s get real-life folks that are not lawyers or lifelong politicians into office… let’s see if they can work with each other to solve the nations problems…
According to my calculator, $665,000.00 divided by $400.00 an hour equals 1662 and one half hours of time. That is working for a year and a half full time.
Or at $250.00 an hour, that is two and a half years of full time work.
Does anyone think this type of time was spent?
Always pay your lawyer in arreas, it will help you avoid getting it in your rear…
Now that’s a true feel good story!
