Florida, get the facts before you buy into anything you hear about the implementation of RomneyCare (which became Obamacare) in Massachusetts. Gruber is giving you false inforamtion
1. Yes the number on insured went down but no one except the Kool Aid drinkers thinks it went down 66%. We know the actual number newly “insured;” it was around 400,000 (4%-6%) in a population of 6,400,000. But it went down because 200,000 f those people got Medicaid paid for by all the country’s taxpayers and 200,000 got free insurance, not because they got insurance. The real mystery here in Massachusetts is why the remaining 300,000 without insurance — most of whom are entitled to free insurance too — don’t take it
2. Premiums did not drop except for approximately 40,000 (under 1%) people out of 6,500,000 people in Massachusetts. And their premiums only dropped for one year (2006). Massachusetts has the highest premiums in the world (but very good healthcare too) and the premiums have almost doubled — even for the 40,000 who got the one-year reprieve — since RomneyCare was begun
3. Only about 30,000 (one half a percent) people in Massachusetts out of 6,500,000 buy insurance on the Gruber exchange. Don’t waste your money on building an exchange no one will use.
Jonathan Gruber has no clue what he’s talking about. 50% lower premiums. Not to be seen anywhere in Mass. Perhaps Florida should take a look at the increasing % of the Mass. state budget “healthcare for all” is consuming.
Florida Turns to Massachusetts for Health Insurance Advice…Mitt Romney Could Not Be Reached for Comment (too busy pumping gas, I guess).
