2002 RMS Client Conference to Focus on Technical Knowledge, Practical Insights for Use of CAT Models

Risk Management Solutions (RMS) announced that its annual Client Conference will be held March 11-14, in San Francisco, at the Westin St. Francis Hotel.

The conference’s focus, shaped by direct feedback from RMS clients, will center on “Risk Management In Practice” and provide attendees with the technical knowledge and practical insight central to their use of RMS catastrophe models.

Since its inception in 1991, the annual RMS Client Conference has grown to become one of the largest gatherings of catastrophe risk management professionals in the insurance industry, averaging over 300 attendees from primary insurance, reinsurance, brokerage, and related fields.

The 2002 conference will offer more than 35 sessions, including an industry keynote address by noted P&C analyst V.J. Dowling focusing on Market implications following the World Trade Center disaster. In addition, Dr. Mary Lou Zoback, chief scientist of the U.S. Geological Survey earthquake hazards team, will present a science keynote address focusing on the latest developments in seismic research.

Participants will choose from four tracks based on their area of interest:

Peril Modeling: sessions discussing the technical details of models that are being upgraded or newly released, including advance information on changes to the company’s U.S. Hurricane and Western U.S. Earthquake models.

Risk Management: presentations that assist catastrophe managers in framing their approach to risk management, ranging from issues that have emerged in the aftermath of the World Trade Center disaster to capital management decisions that are informed by the use of catastrophe models.

Implementation: sessions that address the implementation of RMS software and information within a client’s business process, from systems integration to internal education and development of risk management guidelines.

Fundamentals: topics that provide a road map for clients who are new to catastrophe modeling, as well as those who want more user-oriented guidance on applying RMS software.
