Does anyone else besides me find this to be a little far fetched? It would seem that, if this were true, then Garamendi would have called in the CA State AG to investigate and prosecute.
However, it seems that there is limited evidence other than what Garamendi claims happened.
It is fine for the politically inspired commish to use the media in his attempt to look like a hero, but wrong for the insurance companies to defend themselves using the media.
What a crock – oh, no that\’s crook.
Come on, do you really want us to believe that all these companies can come up with is $2 mill, now if it was $20 mill?? To name Safeco is a joke, they can\’t even spend $1 on politics and also their trying to go direct, they can NOT do 2 things at once. If you are so good and so pro consumer, then Mr. g why did you wait until the end of your term and right before you are up for election to propose these regs…you are a low down politician that could give a rats *** about anyone but yourself and how much publicity you can generate to win the election for your next possible job. You have done nothing as the commissioner, you have taken credit for everything and done nothing. I hope that someone brings your record to light before the election, come on insurance industry, 2 million is nothing, now 20 million, that might just do it, please pull back the curtain on Mr. garamandi….the public deserves to see him for what he really is.
Just checked the copy of the letter on the DOI website. What\’s interesting is that the evidence is lacking. Just a supposed meeting with someone named Darry Sragow, and his deputy\’s conversation with Greg Jones of State Farm confirming he was aware of a phone call. Doesn\’t prove involvement.
I think Garamendi is trying to look like Elliot Spitzer.
Let\’s see, on 4/24 the big G receives a warning of an advertising campaign. He checks and sure enough, it is confirmed on 4/24 that the industry is going to spend some money to try to defeat the regulations which he proposes formally on 4/26. Slowly, the mind mulls over the details, and on 5/9 a light dawns,\”Wait, they were trying to blakmail me, I better tell the newspapers!\”
The next day, new light, \”Uh, oh, I used the word blackmail. In order to have even a shred of crediblity, I better call in the law.\”
It\’s a true pleasure to watch a superior intellect at work.

Garamendi just took your suggestion. His office just released the letters he sent to FBI, U.S. Attorney & AG\’s office requesting investigation.

At least Elliot Spitzer had some element of a case. This California guy has nothing but BS.
