“Only about 13 percent of homeowners have earthquake coverage, either through the authority or a private insurer. Those going without coverage apparently prefer to run the risk of major losses…”

Could someone please write that down? Preferably someone in Congress? Maybe FEMA? Jessee Jackson, you have a pen?

When the quake hits (and it will), when it levels a “minority city” (and it will), when there’s thousands of “people of color” screaming about how some evil Repulican is failing to rescue them (and they will) I want this quote brought out and run in 110pt font on the front page of The Times.

Anon – you hit it on the head this time. The back end of that statement, the part about people running the risk and thinking the government will bail them out, should be used as an eye-opener to everyone. These people aren’t truly running any risk; they figure the government will bail them out and they are probably right.

Anon – no sarcasm and a total and true compliment. We might disagree on many things on IJ but your post was well, brillant.
