We can only hope the details are not being disclosed because of the low amount involved. These three geniuses decided to harass a wild animal and when it backfired, they cried foul an want money. They were old enough to know better. I’d like to see the ASPCA file a counter-suit for mental cruelty to the tiger.

The bench the Zoo agreed to install and maintain should be right in front of the Siberian tiger compound. The plaque should read: “On this spot on Christmas Day 2007, Carlos Sousa, Jr. was antagonizing a wild animal causing it to revert to it’s wild instict and eat him. We recommend you respect the animals.”

As Chris Rock said after the Siegfried & Roy accident, “That tiger didn’t go crazy, that tiger went TIGER!”

I think IJ had this on before with full details. I think I remember something about that. Bench, I don’t think so. Maybe in memory of the tiger as I’m sure he’s been put to sleep or shot.

This is the same type of idiot who had the 200lb ape that went “ape” and severly injured a family friend yesterday. It ate her hands! They are cute babies, but the are wild animals. Stupid people. Too bad the ape was shot and not the idiot owner.

The details are sketchy but it is believed Sousa was with his friends who were taunting the tiger but he was not.

Then the tiger jumped over the wall and attacked Sousa’s friend.

Sousa distracted the tiger and saved his friend’s life. Unfortunately the tiger killed him.

Also the wall at the zoo was well below the recommended height, however this was not cited as a deficiency during a routine inspection prior to the accident.

I think it is likely but not proven that they taunted the tiger. That is a stupid thing to do, yes. But it is a public zoo, with thousands of visitors, including many children who do not always exercise logical or good judgement. They were supposed to have a 16′ wall and they had a 12′ one, and because of that a tiger was able to jump out and kill a kid.

As earlier mentioned, it is just another payout for stupidity. The tigers had been in that enclosure for years. Those punks antagonized the animal until it could take no more and did what a tiger does. Attack! Plain and simple.

The family more than likely got a little stipend while the attorney made off like a fat bandit!

I prefer Mel Brooks movies, but I don’t post his promotions on every web thread know to man. Why doesn’t IJ watch for these idiots?

The ASPCA should sue the parents of the 17 year old in defense of the tiger he tormented along with his friends, including the San Francisco Zoo for their loss and legal fees. Since he was a minor, and under the influence; the parents are liable for his conduct. I am sorry for their loss; however,we need to take a stand for these lawsuits against companies; which cause the industries rates to increase due to people’s negligence and stupidity. This is making a statement that if you were in the forest and teased an animal which in turn attacked you; could you sue the State Forestry Division for injuries/negligence?

As an animal lover, I’m sorry that a tiger had to lose it’s life and that children may or may not have taunted it to the point it lashed out.

However, God forbid any of you take your young children to a zoo with outdated enclosures and your 3 year old points, screams, etc at a wild animal that is able to escape it’s enclosure. Should a teen know better? Sure, why not. But, the zoo ultimately IS liable for not having the walls at a necessary height to confine the tiger.

What would constitute high enough? Are they to construct walls, impounds for animals based on the publics stupidity. Are they to second quess what humans might do or is it called ASSUME (never assume).

Would’nt you say that the teens and their parents are responsible as well. It would be if these teens had taunted a dog in the neighborhood causing harm to both them and the dog or even taunted a human.

I wonder how many animal sanctuaries; zoos, etc. are currently outdated.

I don’t know what the settlement was, but I am against any payout to the families. I really would like to know the details of the case.
