I used to work for Mercury, but was laid off. How is it that they got on a list of the 100 most trustworthy companies, but JD Power & Associates ranked them second to last in customer service for 2007? Can someone explain that because I don’t get it. Nothing has changed. Mercury isn’t trustworthy. They’re an insurance company. Smoke and mirrors is what that’s about. Their trustworthiness AND their customer service are in the toilet. I used to work there, so I would know. Why don’t you ask a panel of their employees if they’re trustworthy or not? A word of advice or caution to their customers: they DON’T give a crap about you. They’re just kissing your butt so they can keep you on the books so THEY look good at the end of the day.

Sorry to hear you were laid-off but you are just speaking out of anger for having been let go.

I have not only been insured with Mercury for over 20 years, (so I should know) but but I have also been a Mercury agent longer than that. I am telling you, there is no other company that protects the interest of its agents like Mercury does.

Many other companies would love to get rid off their agents and go direct or internet-base but Mercury always has supported its independent agents.

Bottom line: We don’t need a survey to know that Mercury is the most trustworthy company in the independent agency system.

No idea how this awful company got in the top 100, this must be a scam. They’re known for being really hard to deal with and offering very tiny settlements. Their payouts are so low that they put the insured at risk for a lawsuit. Additionally they drop their insured like hot potatoes if you have an accident. One person I know formally insured with Mercury could only get car insurance at 4x what they were paying before after Mercury dropped them. This company are known for being the worst out there. Don’t use them, you’ll regret it if you every have a problem, like so many others.
