What’s new here? We have been dealing with these trucks for years in my area, I would not personally eat at one, but the safety of their food seems to be on a par with most of our restaurants. What does bother me though, is that they skirt most of the regs the restuarants have to abide by, such as handicap facilities, property taxes, etc. that they don’t have to pay for. Also, they are a heavy cash business and I wonder how much of that income makes it’s way to the tax man.

…how much will this cost? Obviously thisprogram costs money. Who will be paying for it? Taxpayers will be paying for it. Either new employees required to spot check the thousands of roach coaches will be on the city payroll (taxpayers dime), or the truck owners will have to pay a fee (which will be passed onto diner – i.e. taxpayers). So, essentially we are talking about a tax increase and jobs program for the city of LA. Just what we need in a terrible recession, huh?

The entire A-B-C system is nothing more than a scam for the city to hire more people, take more money, and tax the citiznes ever more. The bottom line with the roach coaches is people will only eat at the ones they know and trust. They will query their colleques and co-workers before trying a new one, as has been done for decades. This program is a scam, and yet another example of fat, lazy city workers bilking money from taxpayers.

Let me guess: you’re either not a resident of Los Angeles, or you applied for one of those “fat, lazy city worker” positions and got turned down…

wow – gives me a flash back to the USMC when the “roach coach” came around to sustain us thru the morning!
never worried about cockroaches back then!
maybe they didn’t have roaches 40 years ago.

Mike N, they already inspect the trucks. The only thing that will be different is that there will be a grade assigned. It’s not like they’re starting from no inspections at all. I don’t see why you think this is going to require so many new employees.

Come to Miami where you can buy a string of Jumbo Shrimp or Frog Legs from a guy with a cooler on the side of the highway in 98 degree heat and humidity.
