Ratemaker: You’re right, it’s not going to stop a carefully planned act. But what it will do is stop someone in a highly emotional moment, from committing a felony that they will regret for the rest of their lives. That’s precisely why guns in homes significantly increase the odds that someone in the family will be killed (much more than an intruder). People get emotional, and then turn the gun on a family member. Happens all the time.
First of all, it’s not ON their property if it is secured IN MY CAR! What’s next; cigarettes? How many people have died from them if that’s going to be our standard? How about fertilizer & diesel fuel? Psychopaths may be crazy but they’re not stupid, and they’re not worried about violating a law. Zero tolerance is the cowardly refuge for people afraid to apply common sense to fluid situations with sound principles.
DBP – You must obviously spend your time in places where cars never get jacked, where if you have a flat or car trouble only good angels come to change your tire or fix your car, and where all the other cars sharing your road are driven by clergy and law enforcement personnel. The reason I have a firearm in my car is to defend myself and my family if a serious, life threatening incident occurs and I have no other choice. It’s that mantra, “When seconds count, the police are minutes away”. You are ultimately responsible for your own wellbeing and safety.
How about; self defense against: car jackings, robbery, general assualts, stalkers, domestic violence, wild animals (feral cats-dogs-snakes-alligators…)going to or returning from a hunting or other overnight road trip, or just carrying it too or from a sporting goods store. If firearm rights were protected like speach or abortion rights you would be required to buy one for me if I could not afford to buy one myself.
guns do not belong near the workplace…how many deaths have been at the workplace in this country!!!!
… and anyone who is planning to shoot up their workplace is just going to stop because it’s illegal to bring the gun there?
