I wonder what jobs Castillo and Martinez will get after prison to allow them to pay off their $18,000,000 share???

Jose was the guy with the knife and he is only 45% responsible but the restaurant who served him liquor is 55%. I wonder if deep pockets had anything to do with it?

I can see how a lot of fault was placed on the restaurant in this situation. They served him “the equivalent of 12 alcohol servings in 30 minutes” without asking for ID to make sure he was of legal drinking age.

Obviously he holds negligence for his own actions, but the restaurant showed some significant contribution towards this event with their actions too.

I do agree with other posters, however, that Jose should’ve been found to hold the majority of fault in this incident.

Let’s face it, Common, serving 12 drinks to a minor might have a little to do with it.

I would agree with ins is fun. The restaurant had A LITTLE to do with it. Not the majority, a little.

…and I agree with IsF & FFA — comp/neg on the restaurant for sure, just not in excess of 50%

Missed the part in the story where it said they were illegal aliens! Did you read that in a different article?

What I find interesting is it appears only businesses know the legal drinking age. I guess if you’re 20 years old, you have no clue what the drinking age is until you turn older than that. Maybe we need to let people know that are less than 21 what the legal drinking age is. Then when they are aware of it, they can be charged as criminals as well for trying to defraud a business and get served alcohol. He maybe 20 people, but he is an adult and knows the law. Why is the establishment always to blame? If he was 16, then we can talk, but he’s an adult. Argh!

Wouldn’t intent be involved someway? Meaning if the murderer showed in some way, prior to this incident, that he disapproved and had violent feelings about his mom and the victim dating, what does it matter that he was served alcohol.

I can’t imagine in just that one day he had become angry about it.
