It is a very sad situation that we, as a country, can enforce such things as air quality regulations on auto makers selling their products in this country, but, local authorities in Oakland, CA cannot enforce building code regulations in their own, relatively small city, even after complaints have been lodged about the property!!
A functioning, automatic sprinkler system in this “firetrap” would have prevented this massive loss of life – shame on Oakland for allowing this travesty to happen (and shame on the building owner as well for violating the law).
I wonder which 2 fire safety regulations we should eliminate.
