These fires really baffle me. Since I live in the area I can see what is going on around me and this is not like past fires. We had lightning strikes over the weekend and it has been hot but relatively no wind. Most of the areas on fire are rural and yeah it’s dry but to spread like they have been is surprising to me. We have had many fires in the past and they can get put out relatively quick if your not dealing with high winds which we have not been dealing with so it makes me go Hmmmmm. The area is nothing but smoke. You know it’s bad when the weather report is not sun or clouds but smoke. I also have to question if some of the fires were intentional.

On the Central Coast, there were extremely strong winds during the initial lightning storms. The areas in Northern California have many micro-climates so it can be windy in the canyons or along the coast and very calm in another area only a few miles away. As far as I know, only the Big Sur fire was caused by an arsonist. Most likely a guy camping with a fire.
